This course is designed to introduce students to horticultural sciences<br />
with emphasis on the technical skills involved in the designing,<br />
construction, and maintenance of planted areas and devices for the<br />
beautification of home grounds and other areas of human habitation<br />
and recreation. Students are given the opportunity to develop<br />
leadership skills through the FFA organization.<br />
This course will help develop leadership skills. It includes topics in<br />
personal development, employee/employer relations, interpersonal<br />
communication, entrepreneurship, career opportunities, leadership<br />
styles, motivation and influence, preparing resumes and applications,<br />
job interviews, employer expectations, problem solving, setting<br />
personal goals and time management.<br />

This is an activity-based course which prepares students to develop<br />
competencies in flower classification and identification, geometric and<br />
specialized floral designs, identification and classification of plants,<br />
interior landscape development, and the use of artistic elements in<br />
personal designs. Students will learn business practices as they<br />
relate to the floral industry, and are given the opportunity to develop<br />
leadership skills through the FFA organization. Successful<br />
completion of both semesters of this course will satisfy the Fine<br />
Arts (1.0) credit required for graduation. This course provides<br />
instruction and training necessary for the Texas State Florist's<br />
