Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security introduces<br />
students to professions in law enforcement, security, corrections, and<br />
fire and emergency management services. Students will analyze legal<br />
and ethical responsibilities of the professions and will recognize the<br />
importance of interagency cooperation. Students will use<br />
communication skills in creating, expressing, and interpreting<br />
information and ideas, and will propose solutions to address problems<br />
related to law. Students will identify the roles and functions of court<br />
systems, the correctional system, private security and agencies, and<br />
fire protection services.<br />

functions of local, state, and federal law enforcement. This course<br />
includes the role of constitutional law, the United States legal system,<br />
criminal law, law enforcement terminology, and the classification and<br />
elements of crime. Students will understand ethical behavior<br />
standards for law enforcement personnel. Students will study court<br />
cases and analyze the impact of court decisions, analyze custody and<br />
interrogation (Miranda v. Arizona), analyze procedural and<br />
substantive criminal law, analyze the rights of victims and witnesses<br />
and analyze reasonable suspicion and probable cause. Students will<br />
use field note-taking and report-writing skills and will employ<br />
procedures to protect, document and process a crime scene.<br />
