Local/No State Credit <strong>Course</strong>s<br />
Local credit courses are approved by the Board of Trustees for local credit only. These courses do not<br />
count toward state graduation requirements. Local credit courses cannot be used to fulfill the minimum<br />
number of credits on any graduation plan. Local credit courses are included in the calculation of the Grade<br />
Point Average (GPA) with the exception of all aide positions, Academic Decathlon and courses repeated for<br />
local credit.<br />
Promotion Policy<br />
Promotion guidelines for students graduating in 2011 and after are as follows:<br />
1. From the ninth grade, a student must have acquired six credits.<br />
2. From the tenth grade, a student must have acquired 13 credits, including two credits of English<br />
(English I and English II) and one credit of Algebra I, one credit of Geometry, one credit of<br />
Biology, and one credit of social studies (World Geography or World History).<br />
3. From the 11 th grade, a student must have acquired 19 credits.<br />
Required <strong>Course</strong>s<br />
These courses are required to fulfill state educational guidelines. A course may or may not have a<br />
prerequisite; a perquisite is a course that must be taken prior to the course under consideration.<br />
Textbooks<br />
Textbooks are state-owned (the property of Texas) and are issued to students in <strong>Plano</strong> ISD free of charge.<br />
Each student is responsible for his/her textbooks issued by their school and is responsible for payment for<br />
lost and/or damaged textbooks occurring in the school year. No textbooks are distributed from the<br />
campuses for the following: Credit by Exam, correspondence courses, e<strong>School</strong> courses and concurrent<br />
enrollment courses.<br />
