C-1. BACKSTOPPING FOR LOW-SPEED<br />
OVERRUNNING<br />
(Overrunning speed at 150 r/min or less)<br />
In this application, the inner race<br />
of the Cam Clutch is mounted<br />
directly onto the conveyor head<br />
pulley, or other shaft with a lowspeed<br />
of rotation, while the outer<br />
race is anchored to the conveyor<br />
frame to prevent reverse rotation.<br />
Since reverse rotation is prevented directly by the<br />
conveyor shaft without using a drive chain, gears, or<br />
couplings, this is regarded as the safest and most reliable<br />
mounting method. Additionally, a low overrunning speed<br />
minimizes the cam overrunning slip speed, as well as the<br />
overall slipping distance. As a result, wear on the cam is<br />
reduced and a prolonged service life can be expected.<br />
In addition to conveyors, this system is also used to<br />
prevent reverse rotation in inclined and screw pumps.<br />

OVERRUNNING<br />
(Overrunning speed = 700 to 3,600 r/min)<br />
This example shows a Cam Clutch installed to the motor<br />
shaft of an inclined conveyor system, to prevent reverse<br />
rotation. Low torque Cam Clutches can also be installed<br />
to high speed shafts. Cam Clutches are excellent for<br />
space-limited applications because they can be used as<br />
is for replacements for standard ball bearing cassettes.<br />

Maintenance<br />
Grease is sealed in, so lubrication maintenance<br />
is not required.<br />

C-2. BACKSTOPPING FOR MEDIUM-<br />
SPEED OVERRUNNING<br />
(Overrunning speed = 150 to 700 r/min)<br />
In this application, the Cam Clutch is mounted on shafts<br />
rotating at medium speeds, such as the intermediate<br />
shafts of reduction gears, etc., to prevent reverse rotation.<br />
Since reverse rotation is prevented by the medium-speed<br />
shaft, the Cam Clutch required only needs to withstand a<br />
comparatively small torque which is inversely<br />
proportional to the rotating speed ratio of the conveyor<br />
shaft. Accordingly, even a small-sized Cam Clutch can<br />
be used for this purpose.<br />
This example shows a Cam Clutch installed to a motor<br />
pulley to prevent reverse rotation. Cam Clutches can<br />
be installed to inclined belt conveyor systems to<br />
prevent reversing when the conveyor stops, as a result<br />
of power loss or other causes.<br />
