<strong>Notes</strong> <strong>for</strong> The <strong>Lifebox</strong>, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Seashell</strong>, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Soul</strong>, by <strong>Rudy</strong> <strong>Rucker</strong><br />
I hope <strong>the</strong>y’ll put <strong>the</strong> changes all in, <strong>and</strong> resize <strong>the</strong> pictures I asked <strong>for</strong>. Well, now<br />
“<strong>the</strong> tome is in <strong>the</strong> mail,” as Sylvia said when we went to <strong>the</strong> beach today.<br />
July 25, 2005. Second Round Page Proofs.<br />
I saw a second round of <strong>the</strong> page proofs <strong>and</strong> everything was fine. The images <strong>the</strong><br />
right size, <strong>the</strong> footnotes fixed, <strong>the</strong> equations good, <strong>the</strong> copy-edits in place <strong>and</strong> looking<br />
reasonable after all. I polished <strong>the</strong> text a little more. I edited that cover photo of <strong>the</strong> cone<br />
shell Stephen Wolfram had given me — I noticed that in <strong>the</strong> photo you could (faintly) see <strong>the</strong><br />
label Stephen had glued on it, “www.wolfram.com”! So got a shot of <strong>the</strong> shell without <strong>the</strong><br />
label. Tweaked some of <strong>the</strong> drawings a bit.<br />
So now <strong>the</strong> tome is really done, although I still have to go out <strong>and</strong> do some promo<br />
this fall. I’m happy with <strong>the</strong> book, I think it’s a classic. A Magnum Opus. And I’m<br />
[probably] done with computers <strong>for</strong> good!<br />
