Installing Lustre
Quick Configuration of Lustre
Building from Source
Building a Lustre Source Tarball
Note – Currently, all Lustre installations run the ext3 filesystem internally on service
nodes. Lustre servers use the ext3 filesystem to store user-data objects and system
data. The ext3 filesystem creates a journal for efficient recovery after a system crash
or power outages.
By default, Lustre reserves 400MB on the OST for journal use 1 . This reserved space is
unavailable for general storage. For this reason, you will see 400MB of space used on
the OST before any file object data is saved to it.
1. Additionally, a few bytes outside the journal are used to create accounting data for Lustre.
