4.3.3 Building from Source<br />

Currently, the distributed kernels do not include third-party InfiniBand modules.<br />

<strong>Lustre</strong> packages cannot include IB network drivers for <strong>Lustre</strong>, however, <strong>Lustre</strong> does<br />

distribute the source code. Build your InfiniBand software stack against the<br />

provided kernel, and then build new <strong>Lustre</strong> packages. This includes following<br />

procedures.<br />

InfiniBand<br />

To build <strong>Lustre</strong> with Voltaire InfiniBand sources, add:<br />

--with-vib=<br />

as an argument to the configure script.<br />

To configure <strong>Lustre</strong>, use:<br />

--nettype vib --nid <br />

OpenIB generation 1 / Mellanox Gold<br />

To build <strong>Lustre</strong> with OpenIB InfiniBand sources, add:<br />

--with-openib=<br />

as an argument to the configure script.B<br />

To configure <strong>Lustre</strong>, use:<br />

--nettype openib --nid <br />

Silverstorm<br />

To build Silverstorm with <strong>Lustre</strong>, configure <strong>Lustre</strong> with:<br />

--iib=<br />

OpenIB 1.0<br />

Note – Currently (v1.4.5), the Voltaire IB module (kvibnal) does not work on the<br />

Altix system. This is due to hardware differences in the Altix system.<br />
