promoted to sales manager to fill the
vacancy created when Bill Kelly was upped
to branch manager. Sam Sherman, salesman,
replaces Jones as office manager .
W. T. Murray's Hilan Theatre has installed
a popcorn machine . . . Harry Diamond, office
manager of Wallace Film Co., has resigned
. . . Mrs. Betty Paschel of Monogram,
has also resigned.
Judson Bell, U-I shipper, has joined the
marines. The new shippers on the staff are
Bill Johns and Carl Slappey. U-I Manager
Bill Kelly and Jimmie Frew, district manager,
attended a New York sales meeting.

Jim Scott, manager of the Roxy Theatre,
was advised by Milton Farris, chairman of
the library board which exercises censorship
powers over legitimate theatre attractions in
Atlanta, that he would be permitted to play
"Mr. Roberts," Broadway hit, with some cuts
in the script. Henry Fonda, star of the
Broadway production, is scheduled to appear
in the play . . . Lois Fincher, formerly with
U-I, is the new booker at ELC, replacing
Ernie Compton who has returned to service
in the air force. Gwenn Rogers, booking
clerk, resigned to accept a position with the
goverrunent.

who was for many years manager of the
local exchange . . . Thomas E. Dodd is a
new booker at MGM . . . Metro employes
gave a farewell party for A. B. Padgett, who
has resigned as manager to become associated
with Wilby Theatres . . . Roy Hall, formerly
with MGM and Screen Guild, is now booking
at the RKO exchange.
Seek Video Permit
MOBILE, ALA.—Kenneth R. Giddens and
Thomas J. Rester, who operate a theatre circuit,
have made application to the Federal
Communications Commission in Washington
for a television station here. The application
asks that the station be permitted to operate
on channel 5.
Gives Passes for Seeing Queen
ST. PETERSBURG—As promotion for "The
Mudlark," the Florida Theatre and the Times
invited any person who had met Queen Victoria
during the years she reigned in England
to be the guest of the theatre. It was a surprise
to find the number of residents and
visitors who had seen the queen in their
childhood days.
"The Southern Souls of Clement O'Reilly"
has been acquired for MGM production.
