Thai <strong>in</strong>vestments take place <strong>in</strong> regions of greater accessibility<br />
(ma<strong>in</strong>ly consist<strong>in</strong>g of large sugarcane plantations <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
South), <strong>and</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>ese <strong>in</strong>vestments are on average very<br />
accessible, with almost 80% of areas granted with<strong>in</strong> two hours<br />
from a district capital (see Figure 19). Vietnamese <strong>in</strong>vestments<br />
are <strong>the</strong> most remote, as 37% of <strong>the</strong>ir area under <strong>in</strong>vestment<br />
occurs over four hours away. While beyond <strong>the</strong> scope of<br />
<strong>the</strong> data available for this analysis, it is also possible that<br />
although areas under Vietnamese <strong>in</strong>vestment rema<strong>in</strong> poorly<br />
accessible from <strong>Lao</strong> district capitals, <strong>the</strong>y are often located<br />
along <strong>the</strong> border with Vietnam <strong>and</strong> some may enjoy better<br />
access to Vietnam than to <strong>Lao</strong> <strong>PDR</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istrative capitals (see<br />
Map 16).<br />
