Section VIII. MASK SERVICING<br />
2-19. GENERAL.<br />
This section contains cleaning and decontamination procedures for the facepiece and blower assembly. For<br />
decontamination of other components of the M43A1 mask, follow procedures in FM 3-5.<br />
2-20. CLEANING AND SANITIZING.<br />
Refer to <strong>TM</strong> 3-<strong>4240</strong>-3S34-10, para 3-6.<br />
2-21. DELlBERATE DECONTAMINATION OPERATION.<br />
a. Decontaminate Facepiece.<br />
(1) Cover facepiece in container with hot water 194°F to 203°F (90°C to 95°C) and soap (Item 21,<br />
App D) for 30 minutes.<br />
NOTE<br />
Stir to prevent hoses from floating to the top.<br />
(2) Rinse facepiece thoroughly with potable water.<br />
(3) Dip facepiece in mask sanitizing solution. See FM 3-5.<br />
(4) Rinse facepiece in potable water again.<br />
(5) Use dry cloth (Item 8, App D) to wipe facepiece dry.<br />
(6) Replace microphone and microphone adapter in facepiece (para 2-13g or 2-13h).<br />
b. Decontaminate Blower Assembly.<br />
WARNING<br />
Dispose of battery before dipping blower into decontamination solution, to avoid<br />
discharge in solution.<br />
After decontaminating, attach canisters to blower before operation to prevent<br />
possible contaminant transfer from blower.<br />
(1) Mix decontamination solution in pail (Item 19, App D) using 5% calcium hypochlorite (HTH) (Item 4,<br />
App D) and 95% potable water.<br />
(2) Remove battery from blower and dispose of it IAW SOP and TB 43-0130.<br />
(3) Dip blower assembly into decontamination solution.<br />
(4) Rinse thoroughly with potable water.<br />
