SPEECH AND DRAMA<br />

THE MINOR<br />

Two minors are available in the Department of Speech and Drama. In both minors at least 9<br />

hours must be upper-division coursework.<br />

SPEECH COMMUNICATION: Minor consists of 18 semester hours to be taken as follows:<br />

6 of the 18 hours must be selected from the required core of Speech Communication courses<br />

for the major.<br />

3 hours must be selected from each of the three controlled elective areas of the major.<br />

DRAMA: Minor consists of 20 hours to be taken as follows:<br />

1. Required core consists of 11 semester hours.<br />

DRAM 1100 <strong>University</strong> Theatre Company (two semesters for a total of<br />

two semester hours)<br />

An additional 9 hours to be selected from the following courses:<br />

DRAM 1304 Introduction to Theatre<br />

DRAM 1314 Introduction to Drama<br />

DRAM 1320 Introduction to Production Techniques OR<br />

DRAM 1330 Principles of Costume Technology<br />

DRAM 1352 Acting I<br />

DRAM 2100 Stage Makeup Design<br />

DRAM 2310 Principles of Design<br />

DRAM 2314 Principles of Stage Lighting<br />

DRAM 2332 Play Structure and Analysis<br />

DRAM 2354 Vocal Performance for the Actor<br />

DRAM 2356 Physical Performance for the Actor<br />

DRAM 3333 History of Theatre and Drama<br />

2. 9 additional hours of drama electives of which no more than 3 credit<br />

hours of directed study or special topic courses may be applied.<br />

The Department of Speech and Drama offers a major Honors Program in both<br />

Speech Communication and Drama. A description of the program is available in the<br />

Effective Listening<br />

Effective listening is central to information exchange and the development of<br />

successful interpersonal relationships. This course will provide an opportunity to<br />

assess one’s strengths and weaknesses and to develop the skills for more active<br />

listening behavior.<br />
