HESC1023 Introduction to Apparel Production<br />

(FA, SP) <strong>Course</strong> focuses on basic principles <strong>of</strong> apparel<br />

production and analysis <strong>of</strong> garment components <strong>of</strong> mass produced<br />

apparel. Students utilize computer generated designs<br />

in the production process. Laboratory 5 hours per week.<br />

(FA) Introduction to pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> dietetics and nutrition<br />

including history, scope and future <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with<br />

emphasis on academic preparation, internships, acquisition<br />

<strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional credentials, career laddering and career<br />

opportunities. Guest speakers will supplement lectures and<br />

<strong>of</strong> food, body processes, optimum diets in relation to<br />

broad overview <strong>of</strong> the physical, psychological, and social<br />

HESC1603 Introduction to Hospitality<br />

Management (FA) Overview <strong>of</strong> the hospitality industry<br />

with an emphasis on the history, scope, economic trends,<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>essional opportunities <strong>of</strong> this global industry.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional areas include: commercial, institutional, and<br />

long term residential food service; hotels and resorts; travel<br />

and tourism; convention and club management.<br />

HESC1601 Work Experience Practicum (SP) This<br />

course is a practicum designed to assist the students to<br />

reach 1,000 hours <strong>of</strong> satisfactory and verifiable work experience<br />

required for the degree program. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 250<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> work experience is required for each credit hour.<br />

Students must maintain paycheck or written documentation<br />

for hours worked. May be repeated up to 4 credit hours.<br />

Prerequisite: HRMN concentrations only.<br />

Special problems are conducted under the guidance <strong>of</strong> a faculty<br />

member and include an inquiry initiated by the student<br />

instructor a detailed outline <strong>of</strong> the problem they will examine.<br />

Study <strong>of</strong> apparel from the perspective <strong>of</strong> structure, aesthetics,<br />

HESC2023 Visual Merchandising (FA) Fashion components,<br />

terminology and design features as applied to<br />

apparel. Principles and techniques <strong>of</strong> visual merchandising<br />

as a means <strong>of</strong> mass communication in the fashion industry.<br />

Window display and store floor planning. Web design for selling<br />

merchandise. Lecture 1 hour, laboratory 4 hours per<br />

week. Prerequisite: ARTS 1003.<br />

SP) Textile fibers and fabrics, their structure, properties,<br />

manufacture, wearing qualities and methods <strong>of</strong> laundering,<br />

HESC2123 Catering Management (SP) <strong>Course</strong><br />

focuses on catering in food service operations and management,<br />

including on-premise, <strong>of</strong>f-premise, working with a contract<br />

management operation and theme catering. Emphasis<br />

is concentrated on the functions <strong>of</strong> catering to include planning,<br />

operations, organizing the event, equipment, implementing,<br />

controlling and legal issues. Lecture 2 hours, lab 3<br />

hours. Corequisite: HESC 2120L. Prerequisite: HESC 2112<br />

Programming (IR) Introduces child life programming in<br />

health care settings. Topics include: roles and expectations <strong>of</strong><br />

a Child Life Specialist, importance <strong>of</strong> play, coping techniques,<br />

family advocacy, administration and pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism. Lecture<br />

HESC2623 Legal Issues in the Hospitality<br />

Industry (SP) Introduction to the laws and regulations<br />

pertaining to the hospitality industry. The focus is on management<br />

responsibilities for the prevention <strong>of</strong> legal action, understanding<br />

federal and state regulations with an emphasis <strong>of</strong><br />

study <strong>of</strong> recent litigations. Prerequisite: HESC 1603.<br />

HESC2803 Studio I: Development <strong>of</strong> Interior<br />

Space (FA) An introduction to interior space articulation<br />

and the creation <strong>of</strong> small scale spaces. Study <strong>of</strong> human<br />

needs, activities, experiences, and spatial requirements.<br />

Exploration <strong>of</strong> design processes and graphic communication<br />

for creative design development and solutions. Studio 6 hours<br />

per week. Prerequisite: HESC 1041 and HESC 1044.<br />

HESC2813 Studio II: Interior Design Process and<br />

Application (SP) Intermediate studio problem activities<br />

with emphasis on conceptualization, design theory, ideation,<br />

HESC2823 Interior Design Materials and<br />

Resources (FA) A study <strong>of</strong> materials and resources used<br />

in designing residential and contract interiors. CSI format utilized.<br />

HESC2833 Introductory Presentation Media (FA)<br />

Techniques <strong>of</strong> perspective drawing, illustration, and rapid<br />

visualization. Components <strong>of</strong> various presentation methods<br />

and formats. Exploration <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> media and available<br />

commercial products. Studio 6 hours per week. Prerequisite:<br />

HESC 1041 and HESC 1044.<br />

HESC2842 Lighting Systems (SP) Exploration <strong>of</strong><br />

design applications <strong>of</strong> lighting, design methods, and scientific<br />

HESC2841 Lighting Studio (SP) Application <strong>of</strong> lighting<br />

design principles to interior design problems. Will include<br />

drafting and specification writing. Laboratory 2 hours per<br />

HESC2883 History <strong>of</strong> Interior Design I (FA) Study<br />

<strong>of</strong> historic interiors and furniture from antiquity through 1800.<br />

Emphasis is given to identification <strong>of</strong> the interiors style and<br />

furniture <strong>of</strong> these eras. Lecture 3 hours.<br />

HESC2893 Principles <strong>of</strong> Computer-Aided Design<br />

(SP) Applying the use <strong>of</strong> computer aided design to the interior<br />

design process. The application <strong>of</strong> CAD with interior<br />

design projects that relate to both interior residential and<br />

commercial spaces, dimensioning, and spreadsheets for<br />

specifications. For interior design majors or consent by<br />

instructor. Laboratory 6 hours per week. Prerequisite: sophomore<br />

standing.<br />

HESC3003 Apparel Production (FA, SP) A study <strong>of</strong><br />

product development and production and the related vocabulary<br />

necessary to communicate pr<strong>of</strong>essionally within the<br />

industry. Laboratory 6 hours per week. Prerequisite: HESC<br />

1023 and HESC 1053.<br />

HESC3013 Introduction to Fashion<br />

Merchandising (FA) A study <strong>of</strong> the retailing <strong>of</strong> fashion.<br />

Included are market structures, store philosophies, job<br />

descriptions, responsibilities at the management level, structural<br />

operations, work procedures, job performance evaluation,<br />

job application, the resume, interdependencies <strong>of</strong> the<br />

retail store with other segments <strong>of</strong> the fashion industry.<br />

Recommended for students seeking a career in business<br />

organizations which produce and/or distribute fashion products<br />

and services. Lecture 3 hours per week. Prerequisite:<br />

HESC 1013 and (AGEC 1103 or ECON 2143).<br />

HESC3033 Fashion Merchandising Methods (SP)<br />

Exploration <strong>of</strong> activities associated with the procurement <strong>of</strong><br />

fashion apparel. A fashion analysis is directed toward apparel<br />

demands and the creation <strong>of</strong> a fashion statement by the use<br />

<strong>of</strong> specific quantitative skills. <strong>Course</strong> follows fashion item from<br />

the designer to the store. Prerequisite: HESC 3013.<br />
