the field <strong>of</strong> logistics and transportation. Topics are selected by<br />

TLOG5633 Business Logistics Systems (FA)<br />

Case approach to physical distribution problems <strong>of</strong> wholesale,<br />

retail, manufacturing establishments.<br />

TLOG5643 Strategic Issues in Transportation<br />

Management (FA) Focuses on the setting <strong>of</strong> objectives<br />

and the design <strong>of</strong> optimal transportation strategy and alternative<br />

means <strong>of</strong> implementing transportation strategies within<br />

different types <strong>of</strong> organizations.<br />

TLOG5653 Global Logistics Strategy (SP)<br />

Transportation and logistics activities <strong>of</strong> multinational firms<br />

with emphasis on transportation, customer service, inventory<br />

control, facility location global sourcing, customs documentation,<br />

and the role <strong>of</strong> government in importing and exporting.<br />

Attention given to current events and their effect on the marketing<br />

and logistics activities <strong>of</strong> U.S.-based organizations.<br />

Prerequisite: TLOG 5633.<br />

TLOG5663 Supply Chain Management (FA) This<br />

course examines the planning and management <strong>of</strong> supply<br />

chain activities including supplier selection and development,<br />

demand management, quick response, vendor managed<br />

inventory, logistics options, strategic alliances, and performance<br />

measurement. Emphasis is placed on the integration <strong>of</strong><br />

purchasing, materials management, and multi-firm logistics<br />

planning.<br />

TLOG5673 Transportation & Logistics Modeling<br />

(SP) This course examines technology and computer applications<br />

in transportation and logistics, using an integrated<br />

supply chain management technique. Topics covered include<br />

computer information systems, decision support systems,<br />

optimization models, simulation, advanced statistics, and<br />

commercial logistics s<strong>of</strong>tware systems. Prerequisite: TLOG<br />

5633 and TLOG 5643.<br />

VAED1003 Self-Directed Learning Seminar (FA,<br />

SP) This course is designed to take students beyond orientation<br />

into the realm <strong>of</strong> taking responsibility for their academic<br />

decisions and learning. The focus is on the whole student<br />

and the whole college experience.<br />

VAED3113 Skills/Strategies in Human Resource<br />

Development (FA, SP, SU) Addresses the acquisition<br />

<strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional skills and strategies associated with creating<br />

and maintaining adult learning environments. Involves a regular<br />

class workshop situation where skills are practiced and<br />

encouraged and a work-based situation where skills are tried<br />

and implemented as well as assessed.<br />

VAED3123 Theory and Principles <strong>of</strong> Needs<br />

Assessment and Evaluation in Human Resource<br />

Development (FA) Addresses the acquisition <strong>of</strong> and<br />

application <strong>of</strong> knowledge associated with needs assessment<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> human resources with emphasis on workplace<br />

situations.<br />

VAED3133 Communication in Human Resource<br />

Development (FA, SP, SU) This course provides an<br />

introduction to communication principles and practices in the<br />

HRD area. The emphasis is on identifying/developing HRD<br />

communication skills that apply to roles, responsibilities and<br />

strategies; and exploring how organizations/individuals communicate<br />

and their impact on HRD. Both theoretical and practical<br />

applications will be included.<br />

VAED3213 Introduction to Human Resource<br />

Development (FA, SP, SU) Addresses the theory and<br />

processes <strong>of</strong> needs analysis, teaching/learning strategy<br />

design and implementation associated with creating and<br />

maintaining adult learning environments. Emphasis on the<br />

design and implementation <strong>of</strong> strategies and the evaluation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the educational outcomes. The pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice section<br />

addresses the way in which adult learning environments<br />

can be used to implement experimental strategies discussed<br />

in tutorial sessions without putting participants at risk.<br />

VAED3403 Employment Law in Human Resource<br />

Development (FA, SP, SU) This course covers the<br />

major employment law facts and concepts used in human<br />

resource development. Applications <strong>of</strong> the key concepts and<br />

facts are emphasized in the class. Knowledge <strong>of</strong> the employment<br />

law facts and concepts and their applications at the<br />

workplace is vital for the human resource development pr<strong>of</strong>essional.<br />

VAED3503 Workforce Behavior (FA, SP, SU) The<br />

prerequisite for VAED 450V Portfolio Development, this content<br />

examines the psychological impact <strong>of</strong> work on the individual<br />

through a study <strong>of</strong> organizational culture, job satisfaction,<br />

motivation, communication, behavioral styles, and<br />

career development. In addition, students will assess individual<br />

personality traits, learning styles, work skills, and develop<br />

both pr<strong>of</strong>essional and personal life goals.<br />

VAED4113 Theory and Principles <strong>of</strong> Adult<br />

Education (FA, SP, SU) Focus <strong>of</strong> study on the concept<br />

<strong>of</strong> individual differences, what they are, and how they affect<br />

the learning and teaching <strong>of</strong> adults.<br />

VAED4133 Applied Theory/Principle <strong>of</strong> Group<br />

Dynamics (FA, SP, SU) This course is designed for persons<br />

who are practicing facilitators <strong>of</strong> adult learning in a<br />

workplace setting. The course focuses on the various theories<br />

and principles that explain the underlying reasons for<br />

group behaviors and processes in the workplace.<br />

VAED4213 Strategies in Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Development (FA, SP, SU) Students are encouraged to<br />

examine their own learning processes and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

development in terms <strong>of</strong> the theories and principles <strong>of</strong> how<br />

adults learn. Methods and strategies for self development<br />

and change are discussed. Self-directed lifelong learning<br />

strategies that ensure continued growth for pr<strong>of</strong>essional adult<br />

educators/human resource development practitioners will be<br />

discussed.<br />

VAED4233 Leadership in Human Resource<br />

Development (HRD) (FA, SP, SU) This course provides<br />

an introduction to leadership principles and practices in<br />

the HRD area, and is intended as a foundation course for<br />

students practicing, or who plan to pursue a career in HRD.<br />

The emphasis is on identifying/developing HRD leadership<br />

skills and exploring various functions/attributes <strong>of</strong> leadership<br />

and their impact on HRD. Both theoretical and practical applications<br />

will be included.<br />

resource development (HRD) in organizations. Focus on the<br />

integration <strong>of</strong> individual development (training), career development,<br />

and organizational development. Topics include<br />

strategic planning for human resource development, needs<br />

assessment, program development, application <strong>of</strong> workplace<br />

learning theories, career development theories and methods,<br />

and application <strong>of</strong> organizational learning theories.<br />

VAED6433 Facilitating Learning in the Workplace<br />

(FA, SP, SU) Facilitation <strong>of</strong> learning and performance<br />

improvement in the workplace. Application <strong>of</strong> instructional<br />

methods, informal and incidental learning strategies, coaching<br />

team building, and formal and informal on-the-job learning<br />

tactics. Focus on facilitating individual and group learning<br />

to affect organizational change.<br />

VAED6443 Program Evaluation in Human<br />

Resource Development (SP, Even years) This<br />

course is a doctoral level course designed as an introduction<br />

to program evaluation in human resource development, training,<br />

and other HRD interventions. Emphasis is on (a) systems<br />

thinking applied to evaluation, (b) organizational development<br />

and program improvement, and (c) the integration <strong>of</strong><br />

evaluation with strategic planning and performance improvement.<br />

VAED6453 Training in the Workplace (FA, SP, SU)<br />

An introduction to and survey <strong>of</strong> current theories and practices<br />

in training in the workplace. Students are expected to<br />

explore selected interdisciplinary topics in areas such as<br />

adult education, vocational education, human resource development,<br />

organizational behavior, instructional technology,<br />

and economics as they relate to training in the workplace.<br />

VAED6463 Training Needs Assessment (FA, SP,<br />

SU) Emphasis on analyzing, designing, developing, implementing,<br />

and evaluating training for business and industry.<br />

VAED6503 Computer Technology in Vocational<br />

and Adult Education (FA, SP, SU) A study <strong>of</strong> computer<br />

technology as it relates to vocational and adult education.<br />

Brief introduction to computers, overview <strong>of</strong> hardware and<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware, hands-on learning <strong>of</strong> word processor, spreadsheet,<br />

data base, desktop publishing, telecommunication, graphics,<br />

CAD/CAM, and/or CAI/CMI packages are covered.<br />
