teach K-12 Physical Education majors how to perform, teach,<br />

develop and implement rhythmic activity. Prerequisite: PHED<br />

PHED3042 Teaching Fitness (FA) Instructional strategies<br />

for teaching public school students about fitness concepts.<br />

(FA, SP) A focus on the various aspects <strong>of</strong> coaching the<br />

PHED5233 Research on Teaching in Physical<br />

Education (FA, SP, SU) A review <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />

research literature informing effective teaching practices in<br />

physical education settings. Students gain experience in critically<br />

reviewing literature in physical education as well as<br />

related behavioral science, education, and humanities disciplines;<br />

emphasis is placed in incorporating research finding<br />

into personal teaching strategies.<br />

Principles, problems, procedures, and the influence <strong>of</strong> educational<br />

philosophy on programs in physical education and their<br />

application in the construction <strong>of</strong> a course <strong>of</strong> study for a specific<br />

program. Considers movement exploration techniques, locomotor,<br />

PHED6353 Systematic observation Research in<br />

Physical Education (FA, SP, SU) This course will help<br />

students understand systematic observation as a tool for<br />

studying teaching, coaching, learning; to develop skills in systematic<br />

observation techniques; and to collect data on behaviors<br />

in physical education and sport.<br />

PHED6363 Supervision in Physical Education<br />

(FA, SP, SU) The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is instructional<br />

supervision as a set <strong>of</strong> complex processes in which the<br />

supervisor works within accepted guidelines and functions to<br />

effectively supervise a teacher’s pedagogical development.<br />

This course will deal with philosophical issues that arise in<br />

Christian theology. Topics to be discussed may include the<br />

as well as the nature <strong>of</strong> God and the relationship between<br />

faith and reason.<br />

PHIL3943 Philosophy and Physics (IR)<br />

Examination <strong>of</strong> the metaphysical and epistemological implications<br />

<strong>of</strong> specific physical theories with an emphasis on twentieth-century<br />

physics. Topics covered may include the nature<br />

<strong>of</strong> space and time (particularly as described in relativity theory),<br />

the nature <strong>of</strong> the quantum mechanical world, and the<br />

temporal asymmetries found in thermodynamics and other<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> physics. Prerequisite: PHIL 2003.<br />
