WCOB2033H Honors Acquiring and Managing<br />

Human Resources (FA, SP, SU) Study <strong>of</strong> the process<br />

<strong>of</strong> acquiring and managing human resources, focusing on the<br />

organizational behavior, legal, economic, and technical<br />

issues concerned with business decisions about acquiring,<br />

accounting for those capital resources. The identification <strong>of</strong><br />

key decisions leads to decision models and the identification<br />

<strong>of</strong> information needs. Prerequisite: WCOB 1023, WCOB<br />

1033, ECON 2023, and WCOB 1012—each with a grade <strong>of</strong><br />

“C” or better.<br />

WCOB2043H Honors Acquiring and Managing<br />

WCOB300V Study Abroad (1-15) (FA, SP, SU)<br />

Open to undergraduate students studying abroad in <strong>of</strong>ficially<br />

sanctioned programs. May be repeated for 24 hours.<br />

WCOB3016 Business Strategy and Planning (FA,<br />

SP) Integrative study <strong>of</strong> the managerial decisions; introduces<br />

students to an understanding <strong>of</strong> strategic competitiveness<br />

and the way in which business strategy is formulated<br />

and implemented; uses a combination <strong>of</strong> theoretical and<br />

experiential approaches to designing business plans for key<br />

decisions, implementing these decisions, and monitoring their<br />

effects. Prerequisite: a business student must complete the<br />

pre-business requirements before enrolling for this course.<br />

WCOB 2013, WCOB 2023, WCOB 2033, and WCOB 2043<br />

must each be completed with a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better. This<br />

course is restricted to Walton College students.<br />

WCOB3016H Honors Business Strategy and<br />

requires: 1) junior standing in the college, 2) completion <strong>of</strong><br />

the pre-business core and 3) the prescribed GPA. See catalog<br />

for details. May be repeated for 6 hours. Prerequisite: junior<br />

standing and completion <strong>of</strong> pre-business core.<br />

Special business topics <strong>of</strong> an interdisciplinary nature. May be<br />

WCOB4213 ERP Fundamentals (SP) An introduction<br />

to enterprise resource planning systems. Students should gain<br />

an understanding <strong>of</strong> the scope <strong>of</strong> these integrated systems<br />

that reach across organizational boundaries and can change<br />

how a company does business. Implementation issues are<br />

covered, including the importance <strong>of</strong> change management.<br />

Prerequisite: WCOB 3016 with a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better.<br />

WCOB455V Service Learning Practicum (1-2)<br />

(FA, SP, SU) Through participation in this practicum, students<br />

learn while providing services that benefit the community.<br />

The goal is for students to learn, practice, and teach the<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> free enterprise. The students assess community<br />

needs and design service projects that enable them to apply<br />

course content knowledge while developing organizational,<br />

communication, time-management, and leadership skills. May<br />

be repeated for 6 hours.<br />

WCOB499VH Honors Thesis (2-3) (SP) Provides<br />

Honors Students with an opportunity to explore a business topic<br />

in depth through an independent research project. Prerequisite:<br />

good standing in the Walton College Honors Program.<br />

for use. Develop understanding <strong>of</strong> how the business processes<br />

work and integrate. Prerequisite: WCOB 5213 with a<br />

grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better.<br />

WCOB6111 Seminar in Business Administration<br />

Teaching I (FA) This course in college level teaching is<br />

designed for graduate students and new college teachers with<br />

specific emphasis on the Business Administration learning and<br />

classroom management. The purpose <strong>of</strong> this course is to introduce<br />

graduate students to principles <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning<br />

and to prepare these future teachers to lifelong learners in the<br />

classroom as teachers. Prerequisite: graduate standing.<br />

WCOB6121 Seminar in Business Administration<br />

Teaching II (FA, SP) Given that the student has successfully<br />

completed Seminar in Business Administration<br />

Teaching I, this course is suggested as the second course in<br />

the sequence. It is designated a ‘hands on’ teaching course.<br />

Students will be assigned a class to teach by their respective<br />

department and will be supervised. In addition, all students in<br />

the class will come together for seminar discussion twice per<br />

month. Prerequisite: WCOB 6111 or equivalent.<br />

WCOB6131 Seminar in Business Administration<br />

Teaching III (FA, SP) This is an advanced course in college<br />

level teaching designed for graduate students and new<br />

college teachers with specific emphasis on the Business<br />

Administration learning and classroom management. The<br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> this course is to enhance graduate students’<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> teaching pedagogy given a base knowledge<br />

and classroom experience. This course will focus on current<br />

and advanced topics <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning, as well as<br />

research in teaching. Prerequisite: WCOB 6111 or equivalent,<br />

WCOB 6121 suggested.<br />

study <strong>of</strong> the stories, figures, and motifs in the mythology <strong>of</strong><br />

WLIT2333 Patterns in Mythology (IR) An analytic<br />

study <strong>of</strong> the recurrent patterns, themes and motifs in the<br />

mythology. May include Norse, Celtic, Babylonian, Indain,<br />

American Indian materials. Greek and Roman material will generally<br />

be excluded from the course. Prerequisite: WLIT 1113.<br />

Survey <strong>of</strong> the literary works <strong>of</strong> the Far East, and <strong>of</strong> its contribution<br />

to the Western Tradition.<br />

WLIT4913 Literary Reflections <strong>of</strong> the Holocaust<br />

(IR) Drawing on fiction, poetry, autobiography, and drama<br />

from works written originally in French, Polish, German,<br />

Dutch, English, and Yiddish, this course introduces students<br />

to the Holocaust through literature. Deals with the adequacy<br />

<strong>of</strong> imaginative literature in the face <strong>of</strong> atrocity, the comparative<br />

effectiveness <strong>of</strong> fiction versus autobiography, and the<br />

dangers <strong>of</strong> exploitation and trivialization.<br />

WLIT4923 Modern World Drama (IR) Drama from<br />

Ibsen to the 1930s.<br />

WLIT4963 Contemporary World Drama (IR) Drama<br />

since the 1930s.<br />

WLIT4993 African Literature (IR) A study <strong>of</strong> modern<br />

African fiction, drama, poetry, and film from various parts <strong>of</strong><br />

Africa in their cultural context. Works are in English or<br />

English translation.<br />

(IR) Literary theory, genres, movements, and influences.<br />

WLIT5233 Form and Theory <strong>of</strong> Translation (IR) An<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> the principal challenges that confront translators<br />

<strong>of</strong> literature, including the recreation <strong>of</strong> style, dialect,<br />

ambiguities, and formal poetry; vertical translation; translation<br />

where multiple manuscripts exist; and the question <strong>of</strong> how literal<br />

a translation should be.<br />
