of the leading higher educational institutions in Africa.<br />

3c. Study Abroad at Yibin University (YU)<br />

With 12,000 students, YU is an undergraduate educational institution located in the<br />

Sichuan province of China. YU offers students an friendly environment, beautiful<br />

surroundings, and a one to one international teacher to student ratio.<br />

3d. Study Abroad at the University of Zululand (Unizulu)<br />

Unizulu is an Historically Disadvantaged Institution (HDI) aimed at eradicating educational<br />

and social inequity. Unizulu houses about 12,000 students and offers career-focused<br />

programs, as well an unlimited number of relevant university courses structured with the<br />

future employers and employees in mind.<br />

4. Study Abroad Tuition, Room and Board<br />

All <strong>Benedict</strong> MOUs state that, tuition, room and board are covered by the host institution.<br />

Students will be housed at university dormitories during the course of their stay abroad.<br />

Before departing for a semester of study abroad, study-abroad students must notify their<br />

Housing Directors about their travel plans in order to secure housing facilities upon return.<br />

5. Study Abroad Course Selection, Approval, and Registration Process<br />

Step 1. Students must obtain a STUDY ABROAD COURSE APPROVAL FORM (SACAF)<br />

(available at www.bcoip.net), or at the OIP.<br />

Step 2. Students must plan and select their courses in consultation with their academic<br />

advisors. (A link to the courses offered abroad can be found at the OIP website<br />

www.bcoip.net or the student may conduct an independent search.)<br />

Step 3. Upon selection of courses, the SACAF must be signed by the student’s Advisor, the<br />

Department Chair, the School Dean, and the Director of International Programs. All<br />

courses selected must conform to the student’s program of study, and must be taken<br />

for academic credit transferable to <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

Step 4. All students who complete a semester of full-time study abroad (minimum 12 credit<br />

hours)will graduate with a Country Specific Minor in International Studies.<br />

Study Abroad Course Load<br />

An international full academic exchange semester/year program should consist of a minimum of<br />

12 and a maximum of 18 academic credits per semester. Shorter terms are offered for specific<br />

programs, such as language, summer, and cultural programs.
