266 CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM
VISION STATEMENT
Benedict College is committed to being the best college in its class in the Carolinas.
We seek students, faculty, staff, and administrators who are committed to creating a better world
through the discovery and application of knowledge.
We will be a full opportunity college with high quality programs of teaching, research, and public service.
Benedict will be distinguished by its continued commitment to facilitate the empowerment, enhancement,
and full participation of African Americans in a Global society.
MISSION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING
Consistent with the College’s mission of teaching, research and service, the School of Continuing
Education is committed to promoting lifelong learning and quality education for adults and non-traditional
students.
THE EVENING AND WEEKEND PROGRAM
The Evening and Weekend Program supports the degree completion of Adult Nontraditional Learners
who wish to earn baccalaureate degrees for career advancement, self gratification, and leadership
positions. We are committed to providing our Adult Learners with the same high quality educational
opportunities provided to our traditional daytime students while also accommodating their increasingly
demanding lifestyles. Each class is specifically designed to incorporate the needs of Adult Learners
through an active faculty-student interaction that will incorporate the experiences of the Adult
Learners. The classes will also encourage collaborative and peer learning amongst students in an
enabling academic environment. Through the Evening and Weekend Program, Adult Learners may
earn their degree while working full-time.
Adult Learners are afforded the opportunity to explore knowledge in the arts and humanities, as well
as business and science. The Evening and Weekend Program for adult nontraditional students is
designed to extend the academic programs and services of the College to the Columbia metropolitan
area and beyond. The Evening and Weekend Program is offered principally after the regular workday
between 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, and 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The aim
of The Evening and Weekend Program is to help the adult population, 25 years of age and older, to
balance the need for lifelong learning and professional development, with family obligations and work
responsibilities.
Students may receive academic credits through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and
the DANTES Program Subject Standardized Tests.
