CRITERIA FOR PROGRAM ADMISSIONS<br />
Applicants to the Bachelor Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies Program must be formally<br />
accepted to <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
Applicants must complete the <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong> Admissions application for School of<br />
Continuing Education at www.benedict.edu/ce.<br />
Applicants must submit official college transcripts.<br />
Applicants must submit a resume.<br />
The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree at <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong> provides educational<br />
opportunities not readily available through the traditional departmental degree programs. Adult<br />
Nontraditional students have maximum flexibility in developing a course of study appropriate to their<br />
goals because courses from the four degree offering schools can be selected. By completing the<br />
<strong>College</strong>’s General Education Requirements, the required Interdisciplinary Core, courses in a variety of<br />
disciplines, and elective courses, Adult Nontraditional students will be able to experience an academic<br />
program that is logical, consistent course of study that is based on acceptable and germane student<br />
objectives.<br />
The School of Continuing Education is convinced that the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies<br />
will be an opportunity for adult learners from various fields and employment backgrounds to complete<br />
the Bachelor’s degree for career enhancement and promotional opportunities by exposure to a plethora<br />
of courses routed in interdisciplinary perspectives.<br />
Relationship to the Mission<br />
Based on its mission statement, <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong> is “committed to providing instruction which leads<br />
to the baccalaureate degrees in the arts, sciences and professional areas”. In addition, we are committed<br />
to providing continuing education that will lead to certificates and other special designations that<br />
may be useful for a career in the external environments. It is our intent to prepare students to enter<br />
career paths which will result in leadership positions in business, education, church, government, community,<br />
and professional organizations, or prepare them for further graduate and professional study.”<br />
The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at <strong>Benedict</strong> <strong>College</strong> directly advances this mission.<br />
Degree Program<br />
The School of Continuing Education awards the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. The<br />
degree program is housed in the School of Continuing Education and is directed by the Dean of the<br />
School of Continuing Education who is assisted by the Assistant Dean. Full-time and Adjunct Faculty<br />
from the <strong>College</strong>’s academic programs, as well as, Adjunct Faculty from government, community and<br />
educational agencies deliver instruction.<br />
Target Population<br />
The target population expected to study for the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree primarily<br />
includes working adults, 25 years and older who have some college credits and wish to complete the<br />
bachelor’s degree for career enhancement and employment advancement. Other students may be<br />
admitted at the discretion of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program Committee or upon approval by the<br />
Dean or the Assistant Dean of the School of Continuing Education.<br />
Career Positions and Employment Paths<br />
The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies is designed for career advancement or simply for selfenrichment—to<br />
explore knowledge in the arts and humanities, as well as business and science.<br />
Students in Interdisciplinary Studies may consider careers and advancement in the following areas<br />
and many others as well: Research Associate, Research Analyst, Management Coordinator,<br />
Purchasing Agent, Telecommunications, Analyst, Leadership Development Trainee, Senior
