MAY 12, 1977: Former <strong>Flyers</strong> defenseman Barry Ashbee<br />

passes away after bout with leukemia.<br />

DECEMBER 11, 1977: <strong>Flyers</strong> defenseman Tom Bladon sets<br />

NHL record for points by a defenseman (8) in one game with<br />

four goals and four assists in the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 11-1 victory over<br />

the Cleveland Barons at the Spectrum.<br />

MARCH 23, 1978: <strong>Flyers</strong> record 400th all-time regular<br />

season victory, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1, at<br />

the Spectrum.<br />

APRIL 9, 1978: <strong>Flyers</strong> honor retiring forward Gary<br />

Dornhoefer at the Spectrum.<br />

OCTOBER 11, 1979: <strong>Flyers</strong> honor retiring goaltender Bernie<br />

Parent, who was forced to retire after being inadvertently<br />

struck in the eye with a stick on February 17, 1979 vs. the<br />

NY Rangers at the Spectrum. In 486 career games with<br />

the <strong>Flyers</strong>, Parent was 232-141-103 with a 2.42 GAA and 50<br />

shutouts. Jersey No. 1 retired.<br />

AUGUST 19, 1982: <strong>Flyers</strong> obtain Mark Howe and a third<br />

round pick in 1983 (Derrick Smith) from Hartford in<br />

exchange for Ken Linseman, Greg Adams and the <strong>Flyers</strong>’<br />

first and third round picks in 1982.<br />

OCTOBER 23, 1982: Bobby Clarke plays in his 1,000th NHL<br />

game, a 4-2 loss to the Penguins at Pittsburgh.<br />

JANUARY 20, 1983: <strong>Flyers</strong> record their 600th all-time<br />

regular season victory, 5-2, over the Calgary Flames at the<br />

Spectrum.<br />

APRIL 14, 1983: Jay Snider is named team president and<br />

becomes the youngest person to hold such a position in the<br />

history of professional sports (at age 26).<br />

JUNE 7, 1983: Bobby Clarke receives Frank J. Selke Trophy<br />

as NHL’s top defensive forward.<br />

OCTOBER 14, 1979: <strong>Flyers</strong> defeat Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-3,<br />

at the Spectrum in the first game of a historic 35-game<br />

undefeated streak.<br />

DECEMBER 22, 1979: <strong>Flyers</strong> defeat Bruins, 5-2, at Boston<br />

to set a new NHL record of 29 consecutive games without<br />

a loss.<br />

JANUARY 6, 1980: <strong>Flyers</strong> defeat Sabres, 4-2, at Buffalo for<br />

35th consecutive game without a loss-the longest such<br />

streak in professional sports history (The streak ends on<br />

January 7 as the <strong>Flyers</strong> lost at Minnesota, 7-1).<br />

MARCH 3, 1980: <strong>Flyers</strong> honor retired defenseman Joe<br />

Watson at the Spectrum.<br />

MARCH 10, 1980: Bobby Clarke and Ed Snider receive<br />

Lester Patrick Award for outstanding service to hockey in<br />

the United States.<br />

APRIL 3, 1980: Reggie Leach’s three goals in a 4-2 victory<br />

over Washington give him 50 for the season, making him the<br />

first Flyer to reach that plateau in two different years.<br />

MAY 24, 1980: New York Islanders defeat <strong>Flyers</strong>, 5-4 in<br />

overtime, to capture Stanley Cup championship at Long Island.<br />

JUNE, 1980: Pat Quinn receives Jack Adams Award as NHL<br />

Coach of the Year.<br />

NOVEMBER 2, 1980: <strong>Flyers</strong> record 500th all-time regular<br />

season victory, defeating the Boston Bruins, 4-2, at the<br />

Spectrum. At the time, no other expansion team had won as<br />

many as 400 games.<br />

MARCH 19, 1981: Bobby Clarke records his 1,000th NHL<br />

point, becoming the 15th player in NHL history to reach that<br />

plateau, with a third-period goal in the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 5-3 win over<br />

the Bruins at the Spectrum.<br />

OCTOBER 9, 1983: Bill Barber records his 400th NHL<br />

goal, becoming the 19th player in NHL history to reach<br />

that plateau, in the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh<br />

Penguins at the Spectrum.<br />

MARCH 22, 1984: <strong>Flyers</strong> set club record with 13 goals in<br />

one game in 13-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at<br />

the Spectrum.<br />

APRIL 7, 1984: Bobby Clarke plays in his last NHL game<br />

(playoff contest) vs. the Washington Capitals.<br />

MAY 15, 1984: Bobby Clarke announces his retirement from<br />

hockey, and is named Vice President and General Manager<br />

of the <strong>Flyers</strong>.<br />

MAY 24, 1984: Mike Keenan named head coach of the <strong>Flyers</strong>.<br />

SEPTEMBER 25, 1984: Bernie Parent inducted into Hockey<br />

Hall of Fame, becoming first member of <strong>Flyers</strong> organization<br />

to be so honored.<br />

OCTOBER 18, 1984: <strong>Flyers</strong> tie club record with 13 goals in<br />

one game in 13-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at<br />

the Spectrum.<br />

JANUARY 14, 1982: <strong>Flyers</strong> play host to 10,000,000th all-time<br />

fan in defeating the Edmonton Oilers, 8-2, at the Spectrum.<br />
