ALL-TIME FLYERS HISTORIC MOMENTS<br />

MAY 4, 2000: Keith Primeau scores at 12:01 of the fifth<br />

overtime period to the give the <strong>Flyers</strong> a 2-1 win at Pittsburgh<br />

in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It is the<br />

longest game in modern NHL history (152:01). Only a pair of<br />

six-overtime playoff contests in the 1930s were longer. In<br />

addition, the game’s elapsed time of six hours, 56 minutes<br />

sets an NHL record. The <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 72 shots and the game’s<br />

combined 130 shots both set team records for an overtime<br />

game.<br />

MAY 7, 2000: Andy Delmore becomes the first NHL rookie<br />

defenseman to record a hat trick in a postseason game<br />

as the <strong>Flyers</strong> defeat Pittsburgh, 6-3, in Game Five of the<br />

Eastern Conference Semifinals. Mark Recchi records a goal<br />

and four assists, tying <strong>Flyers</strong> records for assists and points<br />

in a playoff game.<br />

DECEMBER 10, 2000: The <strong>Flyers</strong> named Bill Barber the 14th<br />

head coach in team history, replacing Craig Ramsay. The<br />

<strong>Flyers</strong> defeat the New York Islanders, 5-2, at the First Union<br />

Center for Barber’s first win as head coach.<br />

DECEMBER 28, 2000: The <strong>Flyers</strong> lose 4-3 at Tampa Bay.<br />

The loss ends the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ eight-game undefeated streak<br />

(5-0-3-0) under Head Coach Bill Barber. It is the second<br />

best start of an NHL head coaching career and the longest<br />

undefeated streak following an in-season coaching change<br />

in NHL history.<br />

MARCH 13, 2001: Mark Recchi posted a goal and two<br />

assists in 5-2 win vs. St. Louis. His goal vs. St. Louis was his<br />

1,000 career NHL point (60th player in NHL history to reach<br />

this milestone).<br />

APRIL 8, 2001: <strong>Flyers</strong> win 2-1 at Buffalo. With the win, the<br />

<strong>Flyers</strong> recorded 100 points for the 14th time in 34 seasons.<br />

This game marked the end of the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ regular use of<br />

orange jerseys on the road. Starting with the 2001-02<br />

season, the <strong>Flyers</strong> began wearing their black jersey for<br />

road contests.<br />

JUNE 14, 2001: The <strong>Flyers</strong> signed left wing John LeClair to a<br />

new five-year contract.<br />

JUNE 14, 2001: Head Coach Bill Barber wins the Jack<br />

Adams Award as “the NHL coach adjudged to have<br />

contributed the most to his team’s success.” Barber is the<br />

first winner to receive this award after taking his position<br />

in-season and the eighth head coach to win in his first NHL<br />

season.<br />

JULY 2, 2001: The <strong>Flyers</strong> signed unrestricted center Jeremy<br />

Roenick to a five-year contract.<br />

AUGUST 20, 2001: The <strong>Flyers</strong> traded the rights to restricted<br />

free agent center Eric Lindros to the New York Rangers in<br />

exchange for right wing Pavel Brendl, left wing Jan Hlavac,<br />

defenseman Kim Johnsson and a third round pick in the<br />

2003 NHL Entry Draft.<br />

SEPTEMBER 20, 2001: The <strong>Flyers</strong> and New York Rangers<br />

skated to a 2-2 tie in a preseason game that was suspended<br />

after two periods so everyone in attendance at the First<br />

Union Center could watch President George W. Bush’s<br />

address to Congress which was televised live in the arena.<br />

Through the generosity of the fans, players and ownership,<br />

the <strong>Flyers</strong> raised $120,000 for the Twin Towers Fund. The<br />

$120,000 donation represented the monies collected after<br />

the <strong>Flyers</strong> matched $2 for every $1 donated by the fans<br />

attending the game and the monies raised through the<br />

auction of game-used jerseys and sticks from the game.<br />

OCTOBER 23, 2001: Keith Primeau is named the 13th captain<br />

in <strong>Flyers</strong> history.<br />

MARCH 15, 2001: Mark Howe, the leading scorer among<br />

defensemen in <strong>Flyers</strong> history, became the 17th member of<br />

the organization to be inducted into the <strong>Flyers</strong> Hall of Fame<br />

in an on-ice ceremony at the First Union Center prior to the<br />

<strong>Flyers</strong>’ game vs. the Minnesota Wild.<br />

MARCH 31, 2001: Goaltender Roman Cechmanek stopped<br />

all 21 shots faced to record a 1-0 win vs. the Detroit Red<br />

Wings. It was his 10th shutout of the season; the second<br />

most by a rookie or first-year goalie since Tony Esposito<br />

posted 15 shutouts during the 1969-70 season. His 10<br />

shutouts are the most by a <strong>Flyers</strong> goaltender since Bernie<br />

Parent registered 12 during the 1974-75 season.<br />

OCTOBER 31, 2001: The <strong>Flyers</strong> “unretired” their orange<br />

road jersey for their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins<br />

at the First Union Center and raised $67,947 through the<br />

on-line jersey auction. Proceeds from the auction increased<br />

the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ contribution to the Twin Towers Fund to over<br />

$187,000. The <strong>Flyers</strong> defeated the Penguins, 3-0. With the<br />

shutout, Brian Boucher became the first goaltender in<br />

<strong>Flyers</strong> history to record a shutout on consecutive days. He<br />

had recorded a 3-0 win at Washington on October 30.<br />

DECEMBER 8, 2001: Jenny Barber, wife of Head Coach Bill<br />

Barber, passes away after a lengthy battle against cancer.<br />

DECEMBER 18, 2001: <strong>Flyers</strong> right wing Mark Recchi scored<br />

a goal in the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 6-3 win against the St. Louis Blues at<br />

the First Union Center. The goal was his 400th career NHL<br />

goal. He became the 65th player in NHL history to reach<br />

the Milestone.<br />

JANUARY 30, 2002: <strong>Flyers</strong> center Jeremy Roenick scored<br />

a goal in the <strong>Flyers</strong>’ 3-1 loss to the Senators in Ottawa.<br />

With the goal, Roenick reached the NHL Milestone of 1,000<br />

career points. He became the 63rd player in NHL history to<br />

reach the mark.<br />
