Flyers Community Relations & Youth and Amateur Hockey
For over 40 years, the Philadelphia Flyers have been innovators in the promotion and growth of youth hockey
in the Delaware Valley. The Flyers’ Youth and Amateur Hockey Department has become the area’s driving
force behind ice hockey. Originally an information and statistics bureau, the department has expanded to
include programs aimed at helping the sport to grow at all levels. With the help of corporate sponsorship,
the Flyers are able to reach out into the community and help nearly 50,000 youth hockey players every year
while exposing the sport to hundreds of thousands of people on an annual basis.
In addition to being a source of information about ice hockey in the Delaware Valley, the Department runs
various instructional and recreational programs, each aimed at a different level of interest.
Youth Hockey Hero
Throughout the season, the Flyers and USA Hockey will honor individuals
who have sacrificed countless hours to help grow the game of hockey
in the Philadelphia region. Heroes may be nominated by anyone within
the local hockey community, and the nomination forms are sent to the
Flyers for consideration. The Flyers will select winners based on length of
volunteer service and other accomplishments/contributions. Heroes will
receive (2) tickets to a select game, where they will be honored during
an intermission. A scratched Flyers player will present him/her with an
autographed stick.
The Flyers are currently accepting nominations for the 2011-2012 season. Nominations should include
the person’s name, address, telephone number, occupation, a brief description of the volunteer
service performed, and why they should be chosen by the Flyers. Please submit entries by email to:
