Hockey Week Across Philadelphia
USA Hockey is leading the hockey community in a
nationwide celebration of the sport in “Hockey Weekend
Across America,” (February 17-19, 2012). The Philadelphia
Flyers support this effort with a week of events across the
Greater Philadelphia Region to increase public awareness
of hockey and provide opportunities for those who have not
played hockey to try it.
Flyers Coaching Symposium
Every year the Flyers conduct a
symposium for hockey coaches in
the Delaware Valley. The symposium
is designed to teach local coaches
advanced coaching techniques
that can be applied to all age
levels, and give them an in-depth
hockey analysis. The Flyers have a
commitment to youth hockey, and
that starts at the coaching level. It is
important to encourage good habits
and techniques in coaches who
are responsible for impressionable
children in the community. This
symposium is targeted to coaches
of all hockey levels. Guest speakers
have included current Flyers coaches
and training staff, the Flyers Youth
and Amateur Hockey Staff, college
coaches, and nutritionists.
Flyers Sled Hockey Team
Formed in October of 2010, the Flyers Sled Hockey team features top local sled hockey players, including
several players that have competed for the U.S. National team. The Flyers will host the 2011 USA Hockey
Sled Classic from November 18-20 at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ.
