Locust Fork (0316-0111)<br />

Sub-<strong>Water</strong>shed: Middle Locust Fork NRCS Sub-<strong>Water</strong>shed Number 050<br />

Landuse: The Middle Locust Fork sub-watershed drains approximately 138 mi 2 in Blount<br />

and Etowah Counties. Land cover was forest with some pasture and crop lands. Three<br />

current construction/stormwater authorizations, 7 NPDES permits, and 13 CAFO<br />

registrations have been issued in the sub-watershed (Appendix B). Dry Creek is on<br />

ADEM’s 2002 §303(d) list for only partialy meeting its “Fish and Wildlife” water use<br />

classification. It is listed for several impairments caused by pasture grazing (Appendix C-<br />

2). A 21.8 mile segment <strong>of</strong> Locust Fork is listed for siltation and other habitat alteration<br />

caused by agricultural run<strong>of</strong>f and abandoned surface mines (Appendix C-2). Graves Creek<br />

is impaired by organic enrichment/dissolved oxygen from pasture grazing and industrial<br />

sources. ADEM’s TMDL to reduce these polutants has been approved by EPA (Appendix<br />

C-1).<br />
