Niles Int'l to Handle Product for Theatres HOLLYWOOD — Nilcs International. Hollywood-based production and distribution firm, has been formed by Niles Film Products, for tbc past 13 years a leading distributor of 16mm and 8mm films in the nontheatrical market, it was announced by William J. Nagy, president of NFP. U.S. and Canadian distribution rights W.lliam J. Nagy have jmt ibeen ac . quired by the parent company and the new subsidiary for the theatrical and nontheatrical distribution of "Schizo," newly completed feature co-starring John Leyton and Lvnnc Fredrick. "Schizo" is scheduled to open in selected areas May 6. Nagy also is heading the production and acquisition arm of the company. Robert T. Saxton, 32-year industry veteran who once held sales posts at Universal and RKO-Radio, has been named sales manager of Niles International. Nagy said producers will be offered computerized reports "to ensure a fair and prompt accounting of grosses" and added that he has put together a national sales force representing more than 600 years of experience with major film companies. Concurrently, Nagy has formed a second subsidiary. Niles Entertainment, to market and distribute a new line of Super 8 films. Robert D. Siedle has been appointed general manager. Niles Entertainment's inventory includes 12 Sherlock Holmes features, co-starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce; contemporary pictures toplining such rock stars as Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane, and a selection of W. C. Fields, Our Gang, Popeye and Superman pictures. N. B. Releasing Offices Located in Los Angeles LOS ANGELES—Ian Morrison, president of N. B. Releasing, announced that the company is now headquartered at 10460 Santa Monica Blvd., No. 2, Los Angeles, Calif. 90025. The firm's telephone number is (213) 474-0560. Morrison, through N.B. Releasing, currently is supervising national distribution of the youth-oriented "69 Minutes." Dimension Pictures Adds 'Georgia Road' to Slate LOS ANGELES—Lawrence H. Woolner. president of Dimension Pictures, announced the acquisition of "Bad Georgia Road" for distribution on the 1977-78 releasing schedule. The theatrical feature, which stars Gary Lockwood and Carol Lynley, was produced, directed and written by John Broderick. Friedman Appointed Chief Of Cinema Snares Ad-Pub NEW YORK— Arnold Friedman has been appointed director of advertising, publicity and promotion for Cinema Shares International, it was announced by David Blake, president of the theatrical and TV distribution company. Friedman's duties will encompass both divisions, as he is to report to executive vice-president Mel Maron, for theatrical services, and executive vice-president Ken Israel, for TV. Additionally, he will be responsible for corporate information and report directly to Blake. A 20-year industry veteran, Friedman has had administrative and creative positions with Columbia Pictures, United Artists, Avco Embassy, Metromedia Producers Corp. and ITC Entertainment. He has been president of his own advertising-public relations agency, which included many of the industry's leading companies as clients. Coming to CSI, Friedman has resigned as director of advertising and public relations for American Media. Cinema Arts to Represent Mar Vista Productions STUDIO CITY—Allan F. Bodoh, president of Mar Vista Productions, and Norman Katz, president of Cinema Arts Associated Corp., jointly announced that CAAC has been named worldwide sales representative for all Mar Vista product. Cinema Arts will be responsible for all theatrical, nontheatrical and TV films from Mar Vista with the exception of "Dogs," which presently is in release. Current and forthcoming Mar Vista features to be handled by Cinema Arts include the Henry Fonda-Eileen Brennan starrer, "The Last of the Cowboys"; "Acapulco Gold," with Marjoe Gortner; "Good Guys Wear Black," starring Chuck Norris, which went into release Friday (15), and "When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder," now in preparation for a spring start. Cinema Arts will represent "Dogs" in foreign territories only. Before forming Cinema Arts, Katz was executive vice-president of Warner Bros. International. Assisting him on the Mar Vista account will be Cinema Arts executive vice-president Frederick L. Hyman. Ali MacGrow Set to Star In 'Convoy' for EMI, UA NEW YORK—Ali MacGraw has been signed by EMI Films and producer Robert Sherman to star opposite Kris Kristofferson in EMI Films' "Convoy," to be directed by Sam Peckinpah. The motion picture, to be released by United Artists in the U.S. and Canada, will be filmed on location in New Mexico beginning May 2. Also topcast in "Convoy," written for the screen by Bill Norton jr., are Ernest Borgnine and Burt Young, an Oscar nominee for the Academy Award winning film "Rocky." TEA Conclave Slated May 8-11 in Tucson NEW YORK—The sixth annual conference of the Theatre Equipment Ass'n will be held in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 8-11, it was announced by Fraser Neal, president. Tom Christie and Lynn Shubert are cochairmen of this year's event. More than 250 members of the theatre equipment community, representing both manufacturers and dealers, are expected to be in attendance at the beautiful Mountain Shadows Resort facility. Highlighting the four-day meeting will be the appearance of Marvin Goldman, president of NATO, and Henry "Hi" Martin, president of Universal Pictures. Goldman will address the assemblage Monday, May 9, with Martin speaking Tuesday, May 10. "The appearances of these two recognized industry leaders marks the first time that distribution and exhibition will be able to address the Theatre Equipment Ass'r jointly," stated Neal. "With the appearance of Martin, our membership will have a ran opportunity to talk on a person-to-persor basis with one of the most distinguishec gentlemen in the distribution and produc tion field."
