RULE 4 / DEFINITIONS49<br />
be ignored, and play shall be continued or be resumed at the point of<br />
interruption (See Rule 10-2.8.d, 10-4.7 and 10-6.2.h);<br />
d. Repeatedly delaying the game by preventing the ball from being promptly<br />
put into play, such as delaying the administration of a throw-in or free<br />
throw by engaging in a team huddle anywhere on the playing court (See<br />
Rule 10-2.5.b);<br />
e. Failure to have the court ready for play after the final horn to end any<br />
timeout (See Rule 10-2.5.c);<br />
f. Attempting to gain an advantage by interfering with the ball after a goal or<br />
by failing to immediately pass the ball to the nearest official after a whistle<br />
is blown (See Rule 10-3.11 and 10-6.1.m); or<br />
g. (Women) The opponents of the thrower-in having any part of their person<br />
beyond the vertical inside plane of any boundary line before the ball has<br />
crossed that boundary line. (See Rule 10-3-7.)<br />
Art. 2. One team warning shall be given for each of the delays in Rule 4-17.1.d<br />
through g. Each warning shall be reported to the official scorer. Thereafter, a<br />
technical foul shall be assessed for the delay that has previously received a team<br />
warning.<br />
Section 18. Designated Spot<br />
Art. 1. The designated spot is the location at which a thrower-in is presented<br />
disposal of the ball out of bounds as in 4-19.1.a through .c.<br />
Art. 2. The designated throw-in spot shall be 3-feet wide with no depth limitation.<br />
Art. 3. The thrower-in must keep one foot on or over the designated spot until<br />
the ball is released. Pivot foot restrictions and the traveling rule are not in effect<br />
for a throw-in.<br />
Section 19. Disposal of Ball<br />
Art. 1. The ball is at the disposal of a player when it is:<br />
a. Handed to the thrower-in or free-thrower;<br />
b. Caught by the thrower-in or the free-thrower after it is bounced to him or<br />
her;<br />
c. Placed at a spot on the floor; or<br />
d. Available to a player after a goal and the official begins the throw-in<br />
count.<br />
Section 20. Disqualified Player<br />
Art. 1. A disqualified player is one who is barred from further participation in<br />
a game after receiving a fifth foul, including personal fouls, (men) CLASS A<br />
technical fouls and (women) all technical fouls.<br />
Art. 2. A team member who leaves the bench area during a fight shall be<br />
disqualified and ejected.<br />
Art. 3. The officials shall notify the coach and then the player of any<br />
disqualification.<br />
Art. 4. When the coach is notified by an official that a player is disqualified,<br />
that player becomes bench personnel, except when the disqualified individual is<br />
ejected.
