RULE 9 / VIOLATIONS <strong>AND</strong> PENALTIES<br />

has crossed that boundary line. Repeated infractions shall result in a CLASS B<br />

technical foul.<br />

Section 6. Travel, Kick, Fist, Through Basket from Below<br />

A player shall not travel or run with the ball, intentionally kick it, strike it with<br />

the fist or cause it to pass through the basket and enter the cylinder from below.<br />

Section 7. Double Dribble<br />

Art. 1. A player shall not dribble a second time after the player’s first dribble has<br />

ended, unless the player subsequently loses control because of:<br />

a. A try for field goal.<br />

b. A bat by an opponent.<br />

c. A pass or fumble that has then touched or been touched by another player.<br />

Section 8. Jump Ball<br />

Art. 1. A player shall not violate Rule 6-4.<br />

Art. 2. The toss shall be repeated when both teams simultaneously commit<br />

violations during a jump ball.<br />

Art. 3. The ball shall be touched by one or both of the jumpers after it reaches<br />

its highest point.<br />

Art. 4. Neither jumper shall touch the tossed ball before it reaches its highest<br />

point, leave the center circle until the ball has been touched by a jumper, catch<br />

the jump ball, nor touch it more than twice.<br />

Art. 5. When the referee or designated official is ready to make the toss, a nonjumper<br />

shall not move onto the center circle or change position around the center<br />

circle until the ball has left the official’s hand.<br />

Art. 6. None of the eight non-jumpers shall have either foot break the plane of the<br />

geometrical cylinder that has the center circle as its base, nor shall any player take<br />

a position in any occupied space until the ball has been touched.<br />

Art. 7. Teammates shall not occupy adjacent positions around the center circle<br />

when an opponent indicates a desire for one of these positions before the referee<br />

is ready to toss the ball.<br />

Art. 8. Players may move around the center circle without breaking the<br />

geometrical cylinder that has the center circle as its base after the ball has left the<br />

referees hand(s) during the toss.<br />

Section 9. Three-Second Rule<br />

Art. 1. A player shall not be permitted to have any part of his or her body remain<br />

in the three-second lane for more than three consecutive seconds while the ball is<br />

in control of that player’s team in his or her front court.<br />

a. A team in control of the ball for a throw-in adjacent to a front-court<br />

boundary line may not be called for a three-second violation.<br />

Art. 2. Allowance shall be made for a player who, having been in the threesecond<br />

lane for less than three seconds, dribbles or moves in immediately to try<br />

for field goal.<br />

a. The player shall not pass the ball instead of trying for goal.
