Trades - Apprenticeship<br />
Employment Opportunities<br />
Students have employment with a registered employer<br />
through the Apprenticeship program and employment with<br />
private individuals or with companies. Many students who<br />
complete the apprenticeship program and have achieved<br />
Journeyman status begin their own business.<br />
Further Education & Training Options<br />
Students are able to continue with their Apprenticeship<br />
training (usually 4 periods) until they have reached<br />
their Journeyman status as defined by Apprenticeship &<br />
Industry Training.<br />
Entrance Requirements<br />
• must meet the academic requirements for the specific<br />
trade. Academic entrance requirements may vary<br />
depending on the trade being taken. For information<br />
students can contact their local Apprenticeship Branch<br />
(in Slave Lake, 780-849-7228) or visit www.tradesecrets.<br />
gov.ab.ca,<br />
• must be employed with an approved employer (have a<br />
certified Journeyman able to supervise the work),<br />
• must be registered as an apprentice with Apprenticeship<br />
& Industry Training in the appropriate period of training.<br />

Board Exam Fees of $100 (Theory) and $195 (Practical).<br />

180 to 360 hours per period (most are 240 hours).<br />
