Financial Management 2070 Payroll Accounting<br />

Students gain knowledge for establishing and operating a payroll<br />

system. They will use proper terminology and awareness of current<br />

rules and regulations of the payroll function.<br />

Pre-requisite: FIN1020 recommended<br />

FIRS0100 (3 credits)<br />

Fire Suppression<br />

Both theoretical and practical training required for certification as<br />

a Type I Helitack Firefighter. Topics covered include fire behaviour,<br />

tactics and strategy, and the use and maintenance of fire equipment.<br />

FMNP0100 (3 credits)<br />

Forest Management Practices<br />

The goal of this course is to provide you with an understanding of<br />

how forested lands are managed in Alberta and give you an appreciation<br />

of the complex nature of issues surrounding forestry today.<br />

FORE1000 (3 credits)<br />

Introduction to Forestry<br />

This course is a general introduction to trees and other forest plants,<br />

forest ecology, and forest land-use planning. Includes discussions of<br />

the relationship between recreation, water, wildlife, agriculture, range<br />

and timber to forest management policies and practices in Alberta<br />

and elsewhere. Note: this course does not transfer into the U of A<br />

B.Sc., but does transfer for other purposes.<br />

FTPR0100 (1 credit)<br />

Forestry Work Practicum<br />

This practicum gives the student valuable work experience and exposure<br />

to the Forest Industry. Students will be required to work for three<br />

weeks with a company in the forest industry.<br />

Pre-requisites: Any 5 Core Forestry & Harvesting Program Courses<br />

HARV0100 (2 credits)<br />

Harvesting<br />

Learn how a modern day logging operation works. Students will examine<br />

the advantages and disadvantages of various logging machinery.<br />

HCOM0100 (2 credits)<br />

Health Communication<br />

This is an introductory communication course for the health professions.<br />

The goal of this health communications course is to provide<br />

the student with basic concepts of communication including self<br />

awareness, verbal and nonverbal skills and listening. As well students<br />

will cover topics such as communicating with individuals with special<br />

needs, communication in the workplace and resolving conflict.<br />

HCS3000 (1 credit)<br />

Health Care Services 3000 Workplace Safety Systems<br />

Students gain the attitudes, knowledge and skills related to workplace<br />

health and safety and examine relevant legislation required in the<br />

workplace. This module is a mandatory component of the first work<br />

experience course taken by a student.<br />

HEAS1000 (4 credits)<br />

Health Assessment: Assessment of Adults<br />

The health assessment course introduces the student to assessment<br />

of a client’s health status and identification of normal structures and<br />

functions of the physical component of the adult. Overt deviations<br />

from normal are included. This course prepares the student to gather<br />

data by obtaining a health history and conducting a physical examination.<br />

The course includes theory and laboratory practice.<br />

HEED1010 (3 credits)<br />

Health Education: Personal Health and Wellness<br />

This course is designed to offer an overview, within the context of<br />

the community and the Canadian health care system, of the physical,<br />

social, mental, environmental and spiritual aspects of personal health<br />

and wellness. Topics include nutrition, exercise, stress management,<br />

weight management, eating disorders, common health problems and<br />

their prevention, and primary health care. This course includes an<br />

individualized analysis of personal health issues and physical fitness.<br />

Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the concepts<br />

of health and wellness, describe their dimensions, and plan, implement<br />

and report on a specific wellness plan or project as it relates to<br />

their own life.<br />

HCAP0001 (6 credits)<br />

HCA Preceptored Clinical Practice<br />

This 200-hour practicum gives the Student the opportunity to practice<br />

learned skills and concepts in the continuing care / homecare setting<br />

under the supervision of a clinical preceptor. For students who<br />

are currently employed, credit may be granted for current and relevant<br />

work experience.<br />

HFDN0005, HFDN0006, HFDN0007, HFDN0008, HFDN0009,<br />

Foundations One: The Roles and<br />

Responsibilties of a Health Care Aide<br />

This course covers theory on how the HCA will function effectively<br />

as a health care team member, practice safely with consideration to<br />

personal safety, environmental safety and WHMIS and knowledge for<br />

ensuring and maintaining client safety. Safety is stressed throughout<br />

the remainder of the Health Care Aide program and the rest of the<br />

HCA’s career.<br />
