ENVS0200 (2 credits)<br />

Industrial Environmental Awareness<br />

Raises the awareness of the environmental requirements of companies<br />

and the individual’s responsibilities towards ensuring that the environment<br />

suffers minimum impact as a result of industrial activities.<br />

FA001 (1 credit)<br />

Standard First Aid - CPR (Level C)<br />

Upon successfully completing this course, you will be awarded a nationally<br />

recognized certificate that is valid for 3 years. Recognized as<br />

First Aider II by Alberta Occupational Health & Safety, this course<br />

includes treatment for choking, control of bleeding, treatment and<br />

prevention of shock, child and infant resuscitation and adult one and<br />

two-rescuer CPR. Fractures of the limbs, head and spinal injuries, eye<br />

injuries, burns, medical conditions, environmental injuries, wound<br />

care and secondary survey are also covered.<br />

FA002 (1 credit)<br />

Standard First Aid-CPR Level B<br />

This course is ideal for people who care for children: parents, nannies,<br />

teachers and home-care providers. In Alberta this course is the<br />

requirement for day-care and day-home workers and meets the standards<br />

of the Alberta Family & Social Services department.<br />

GIS-GPS Graphic Information System -<br />

Global Positioning Systems<br />

This new technology is rapidly becoming standard in many forestry<br />

operations, as it is an effective tool to aid in the management of the<br />

forests. The course will outline how global positioning systems (GPS)<br />

are being used.<br />

FINA0211 (3 credits - Portage <strong>College</strong>)<br />

Business Finance<br />

All managers, self-employed business owners and individual investors<br />

require an adequate knowledge of business financing, financial<br />

analysis and capital budgeting. Informed decision making requires<br />

a sound understanding and firm grasp of analytical techniques such<br />

as the proper use of financial ratios, evaluating interest costs through<br />

debit financing, financial statement analysis, cash budgeting, capital<br />

budgeting and break-even analysis.<br />

Pre-requisites: ACCT 107, MATH 117 or ACCT1110, MGMT1110<br />

FIN1015 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 1015 Accounting Prep<br />

Students are introduced to accounting and terminology unique to financial<br />

accounting. They become familiar with financial statements,<br />

generally accepted accounting principles and how to prepare for the<br />

process of starting up a business.<br />

FIN1020 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 1020 Accounting Cycle 1<br />

Students are introduced to the accounting cycle for a service business.<br />

They will analyze and record business transactions up to trial<br />

balance for the fiscal period of a business using terminology unique<br />

to financial accounting.<br />

Pre-requisite: FIN1015 recommended<br />

FIN1030 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 1030 Accounting Cycle 2<br />

Students complete the accounting cycle for a service business, preparing<br />

financial statements and closing accounts. They also will explore<br />

other factors of a business, including budgets.<br />

Pre-requisite: FIN1020 recommended<br />

FIN2020 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 2020 Retail Accounting 1<br />

Students apply specialized accounting procedures associated with<br />

buying and selling goods in a retail system with a credit system and<br />

a partnership.<br />

Pre-requisite: FIN1030 recommended<br />

FIN2030 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 2030 Retail Accounting 2<br />

Students continue to apply specialized accounting procedures by preparing<br />

financial statements, analyzing adjusting and closing entries<br />

and completing the accounting cycle for a retail business.<br />

Pre-requisite: FIN2020 recommended<br />

FIN2040 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 2040 Accounting Software<br />

Students learn and demonstrate use of an accounting software package<br />

for personal and business use. They will complete transactions<br />

and procedures typically used by an individual or a business.<br />

Pre-Requisite: FIN1030 recommended<br />

FIN1010 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 1010 Personal Financial<br />

Information<br />

Students explore concepts that affect the finances of an individual, including<br />

a code of conduct, the economic environment, acquiring and<br />

using financial resources, and the effects of government legislation.<br />

FIN2060 (1 credit)<br />

Financial Management 2060 Personal Taxation<br />

Students examine the Canadian income tax system through the preparation<br />

of a variety of personal income tax returns, completed manually<br />

and /or electronically.<br />
