In addition, the <strong>City</strong> shall develop a multi-phase marketing campaign and an educational<br />
outreach program that emphasizes specific environmentally responsible practices such as<br />
increasing recycling efforts and reducing litter. The <strong>City</strong> will also coordinate with outside<br />
agencies such as the County <strong>of</strong> San Mateo and the local school districts in their efforts <strong>of</strong><br />
promoting environmentally responsible practices and programs.<br />

Responsible Practices<br />
Introduction<br />
The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Daly</strong> <strong>City</strong> recognizes that the work <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> may have a direct or indirect effect on<br />
local, regional, and global environment. The <strong>City</strong> is committed to reducing any harmful effects<br />
on the environment and promoting the understanding <strong>of</strong> sustainability in its broadest context to<br />
its employees and the residents it serves.<br />
These <strong>Green</strong> Guidelines have been developed to guide staff towards making decisions in various<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> its activities that range from purchasing to operations, from community outreach to<br />
ordinance development.<br />
Diversion (Recycle, Reduce, Reuse)<br />
Diversion refers to the process <strong>of</strong> diverting waste from the landfill and can occur through the<br />
recycling <strong>of</strong> materials, reducing the amount <strong>of</strong> materials used for a given function, or reusing<br />
materials. To this end, the <strong>City</strong> will continue implementing and improving upon the following<br />
practices:<br />

The <strong>City</strong> purchases recycled paper and Energy Star certified products<br />
The <strong>City</strong> continues to make smart printer purchases such as duplex printers.<br />
The <strong>City</strong> purchases 20% bi<strong>of</strong>uel/low sulfur diesel in bulk to avoid multiple plastic containers for<br />
recycling.
