To the extent practicable, the <strong>City</strong> shall require packaging to be reusable, recyclable or<br />
compostable. Items purchased shall be bulk–packed if possible and carded items shall be avoided.<br />
Vendors shall be encouraged to take back and reuse pallets and packaging materials.<br />
Purchasing will work with vendors to ensure the most effective packaging <strong>of</strong> products.<br />
<strong>City</strong>wide Recycling Program<br />
Operations<br />
Continue to collect batteries and ink cartridges at <strong>City</strong> Hall.<br />
The <strong>City</strong> recycles waste materials (oil, tires, batteries…)<br />
The <strong>City</strong> has recycle bins (paper, plastic, aluminum cans) at all <strong>City</strong> facilities and <strong>of</strong>fices.<br />
The <strong>City</strong> provides a program for residents to drop <strong>of</strong>f recyclables at a <strong>City</strong> site, once or twice a<br />
year.<br />
Continue to provide in-<strong>of</strong>fice recycling and throughout all facilities<br />
Comply with the Construction and Debris Recycling Ordinance<br />
With cooperation from Allied Waste, the <strong>City</strong> shall continue single-stream recycling for<br />
commercial customers<br />
The <strong>City</strong> shall implement an integrated waste management program consistent with the waste<br />
management hierarchy set forth in state law (AB 939); that is, waste prevention and reuse (source<br />
reduction) first, followed by recycling and composting, with only the residual being disposed <strong>of</strong><br />
as trash or garbage. Recycling programs are currently available at the <strong>City</strong> for paper, telephone<br />
books, laser–jet cartridges, wood pallets, scrap metal, batteries, glass and plastic bottles, and<br />
aluminum cans. The <strong>City</strong> will evaluate and implement, where practicable, expansions <strong>of</strong> and<br />
additions to the current programs in order to increase waste diversion.<br />
The <strong>City</strong>, with cooperation from Allied Waste, shall extend single-stream recycling services to all<br />
<strong>of</strong> its customers, specifically residential users.<br />
All documents shall be printed and copied on both sides to reduce the use and purchase <strong>of</strong> paper,<br />
whenever practical.<br />
The <strong>City</strong> is working on going paperless with a “work flow” project, Agenda plus, and electronic<br />
timesheets.<br />
Provide a comprehensive training program on composting to community volunteers to extend<br />
composting information to the public through volunteers.<br />
Where practicable, all motor vehicles operated shall use recycled propylene glycol antifreeze.
