monitors were required to monitor the following phases of examinations:
4.1 The design phase
During this phase, assessment bodies were required to complete
self-evaluation instruments and write reports on their state of readiness.
These reports were then submitted to Umalusi and monitors were
deployed to assessment bodies’ head offices to verify the information in
the reports. During the verification process, monitors were required to
track two subjects with regard to processes relating to the setting,
moderation, typing, editing, proofreading, translating (where applicable)
and approval of question papers.

4.3 The capturing, processing and release of results
Monitors visited the assessment bodies’ capturing centre for a day to
ensure that marks have been correctly captured. The same subjects that
were marked during the design phase were verified.

The following are the general findings of the monitoring process:
With regard to monitoring the conduct of examinations, assessment
bodies were responsible for the daily monitoring of the examinations.
Daily reports were submitted to Umalusi with the purpose of assisting
