IN presenting our first number for 1910 the Editor begs to wish all our readers a very hearty Good New-Year, and at the same time to thank them for the support which they have given the "Chrollicle" during the past year, which he is glad to be able to say has been a most successful one so far as the finances of the regimental mag lzine are concerned. The Editor begs to acknowledge with many thanks the following donations and subscriptions received since last issue :-Mr. F. Witcombe (late band. H.L.I.), donation and four years' subscriptions, £1; Captain J. H Leslie, four years' subscriptions. £ I; T. H. Bryant, Esq., 5s; Sergeants' Mess, 9th H.L.I., 5s. Colonel T. S. G. H. Robertson Aikman, who will have completed a period of ten yeal's in command of the 4th Battalion in June next, has been granted a further extension of two years in command of the battalion from the 19th of June,1910. We feel sure that all who have served under him will heartily congratulate him. His retirement from the regiment, both from his long sf'rvice and his intimate local connection, would have been a very great loss. Depot Notes. SINOE last issue th~re has not been very much. of intelest to chronicle. There have been one or two changes amongst the Officers. Lieut. J. R. Simson joined the ard Battalion in October in place of Lieut. Halswelle, who had rejoined the 2nd Battalion in September on completion of two years time at the Depot. Capt Buist has also left. and took up the duties of his new appointment as Recruiting Officer in Glasgow on the 21st December. His place is being filled in the 3rd Battalion by Capt. L. G. Pringle, who is expected home from the 1st Battalion in India at an early date. Capt. Stock well has also been appointed to the regular establishment of the 3rd Battalion to complete establishment, but proceeded on three months leave on arrival home from India, and is expected to join for duty in February. Lieut. Simson is not making a long stay at the Depot, as he has secured an appointment as Instructor in Gymnastics in West Africa, and proceeds to take up the appointment at the end of January. A draft of 14 N.-C.O.'s and men proceeded to join the 2nd Battalion Oll the 11 th October, many of the N.-C.O.'s being relieved by others detailed from the 2nd Battalion. Once more, owing to lack of accommodation at Hamilton, all recruits for the line are being sent direct to join the 2nd Ba.ttalion at Cork. Both our Sergt.·Majors, Sergt.-Major Stewart, 3rd Battalion, and Sergt -Major Stephenson, 4th Battalion, went off for the Refreshor Course at the School of Mu~ketry, Hythe, at the end of November With the leave and furlough season now on thc Depot is at its lea!tt busy period just now,
