UNION.
THRSE teams met in the Camp Field on Saturday
in the fourt·h rOlmd ,of the above competitioIt. H.L.I.
won the toss, and, started against the incline. Directly
·After the start the visitors got away and Maineyopened
the score with a nice drooping shot. Some even play
· followed in midfield, and the R8.P. forwards again
'attaeked, and ROlloCh sent in a nice cent,re, which
ena.bledDuffey to get a second goal. Give·and-ta.ke
play ruled· for some time, and the H.L.I. made' great
'efforts to score, but the visitors' hacks wl,)re very sound.
However, the home team were not to be denied, and
,Robertilon beat Barry with a long drooping shot. The
Highlanders continued to press, and before the interval
Cook equalised after some fine combined play. Half·
.time score:- .
In the second half the home team were quickly on
the aggressive, and eventually from a corner Bruce put
· them one up with a header. The play was very vigorous
and the RS.P. front line now got going; the
inside left, who was playing a great game, brought off
a nice dribble, but their combination was poor, a.nd no
,BC!ore resulted. The Highkmders were now having the
best of the pla.y, a.nd bombarded the visit{)rs' goal with
· A series of long shots, butwitho,lt result, and: the final
whistle came leaving the H.L.I. victorious on the score:
SIXTH 1(tOUND.
H.L.I. RESERVES V. FRANKFORT.
· Tms mateh was played on the Glasnevi~ Ground,
Dublin. We had to undertake a very long Journey to
Dublin on the 31st December to play Frankfort on
New Year's Day. .
The game commenced sha.rp at 2.30 p.m. We won
'·the toss, and elected to play against a very strong wind.
· The play in the first half was mostly confined to our
half of the field, but thanks to a capable defence we
·~ssed over with the score·sheet blank-a very good
performance, consitlering the conditions.
· The wind did not seem to aid our team very much. as
the half·backs kieked far too hard, and the ball was
very often over the goal-line. Time was fas~ approach.
ing. and just when everybody was expectmg a draw
Smith got the ball near midfield. and, running right
through, scored with a good shot, leaving us winners by
the odd goal.
We must thank our defence for saving the 8,ituation
and carrying us into the seventh round.
SEVENTH ROUND.
'THESE teams met at the ~mp Field to.day in the
Seventh Round Irish Junior Cup in unfavourable
defenCe was good. Strollers were combmmg well, and
,a high kipk by one of their forwards w;as bloWn into the
,goal for the opening score. The home team made
severai good efforts, but were repeatedly penalised for
offside. Highlanders got away, and Steele saved a
good shot by Smith. Soon. after, .the visitors ha.- a
Before, the 'interval a" free" in favour of Highla.nders
enabled Sonthworth to send in for a: goal.. .
In the second half the home team had the best of the
play, and kept up a continued pressure, b~l~ witho.ut
result, and full·time came leaving the. vlBltors VIC·
