Editor's Notes.<br />

IN presenting our first number for <strong>1910</strong> the<br />

Editor begs to wish all our readers a very<br />

hearty Good New-Year, and at the same time<br />

to thank them for the support which they have<br />

given the "Chrollicle" during the past year,<br />

which he is glad to be able to say has been a<br />

most successful one so far as the finances of the<br />

regimental mag lzine are concerned.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Editor begs to acknowledge with many<br />

thanks the following donations and subscriptions<br />

received since last issue :-Mr. F. Witcombe<br />

(late band. H.L.I.), donation and four years'<br />

subscriptions, £1; Captain J. H Leslie, four<br />

years' subscriptions. £ I; T. H. Bryant, Esq., 5s;<br />

Sergeants' Mess, 9th H.L.I., 5s.<br />

Colonel T. S. G. H. Robertson Aikman, who<br />

will have completed a period of ten yeal's in<br />

command of the 4th Battalion in June next, has<br />

been granted a further extension of two years<br />

in command of the battalion from the 19th of<br />

June,<strong>1910</strong>. We feel sure that all who have<br />

served under him will heartily congratulate<br />

him. His retirement from the regiment, both<br />

from his long sf'rvice and his intimate local<br />

connection, would have been a very great loss.<br />

Depot Notes.<br />

SINOE last issue th~re has not been very much.<br />

of intelest to chronicle.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re have been one or two changes amongst<br />

the Officers. Lieut. J. R. Simson joined the<br />

ard Battalion in October in place of Lieut.<br />

Halswelle, who had rejoined the 2nd Battalion<br />

in September on completion of two years time at<br />

the Depot. Capt Buist has also left. and took<br />

up the duties of his new appointment as Recruiting<br />

Officer in Glasgow on the 21st December.<br />

His place is being filled in the 3rd Battalion by<br />

Capt. L. G. Pringle, who is expected home from<br />

the 1st Battalion in India at an early date.<br />

Capt. Stock well has also been appointed to<br />

the regular establishment of the 3rd Battalion to<br />

complete establishment, but proceeded on three<br />

months leave on arrival home from India, and<br />

is expected to join for duty in February.<br />

Lieut. Simson is not making a long stay at<br />

the Depot, as he has secured an appointment as<br />

Instructor in Gymnastics in West Africa, and<br />

proceeds to take up the appointment at the end<br />

of January.<br />

A draft of 14 N.-C.O.'s and men proceeded to<br />

join the 2nd Battalion Oll the 11 th October,<br />

many of the N.-C.O.'s being relieved by others<br />

detailed from the 2nd Battalion.<br />

Once more, owing to lack of accommodation<br />

at Hamilton, all recruits for the line are being<br />

sent direct to join the 2nd Ba.ttalion at Cork.<br />

Both our Sergt.·Majors, Sergt.-Major Stewart,<br />

3rd Battalion, and Sergt -Major Stephenson, 4th<br />

Battalion, went off for the Refreshor Course at<br />

the School of Mu~ketry, Hythe, at the end of<br />

November<br />

With the leave and furlough season now on<br />

thc Depot is at its lea!tt busy period just now,
