AN ORDINANCE to create new Section 135 15 Administrative Towing Fees
of theCod
rfred Ordinances of the pity of Lakewood to eatabisn an administrative
fee for the towing of vehicles ordered by the Division ofPolice
WHEREAS currently the City of Lakewood contracts with outside towing
agencies for police ordered towing ofvehicles and
WHEREAS the owners of the vehicles towed pay the towing agency
directly for all costs associated with thetow and
WHEREAS the City of Lakewood expends a significant amount of time
processing paperwork for the tracking of and release of towed vehicles and
WHEREAS the Chiefof Police has estimated that the City expends a
average of nearly25 00 per tow in personnel hours and
WHEREAS the City of Lakewood would like to establish reasonable fees
for the administrative costs associated with the towing of vehicles Now
therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD STATE OF OHIO
Section 1 That new section 135 15 Administrative Towing Fees of the
Codified Ordinances of the City of Lakewood is hereby enacted to read as
follows
135 15 ADMINISTRATIVE TOWING FEES
a An Administrative Towing Fee is hereby established and the City of
Lakewood Division of Police is hereby authorized to charge an administrative
towing fee in the amount of to the owner of any vehicle seeking
reiease of the vehicie from impound Such fee may be increased from time to
time by the Director of Finance to reflect the actual increase in costs associated
with processing the police ordered tow of a vehicle Such fees shall be in
addition to any fee that is charged by an agency that contracts with the City of
Lakewood for police ordered tows
bThe Director of Public Safety or his or her designee is hereby
authorized to enter into one or moreservice contracts for the towing of vehicles
