The aim of this module is to give students in-depth knowledge of advanced techniques using different camera formats and a variety of different lighting conditions in the studio and on location. It also introduces the theory and practice of colour photography, including colour printing. The module aims to give students experience of practical working in a client-based context, producing high quality images in response to a commercial brief. Produced work must consider client and target audiences. Students will also be introduced to a wide range of work from existing photographers. Module Aims: • To enhance the opportunities to translate theoretical knowledge into technical skills. • To give students skills in colour photography and colour printing. • To enable to students to produce high quality client-based images. • To afford practical experience of the production of a body of work in response to a set brief. • To give students knowledge and experience of working in a commercial context. • To encourage the establishment of links between the learning process and industry. • To develop the practice of critical self-appraisal. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the module the successful student will be able to: 6. Synthesise relevant theoretical and practical knowledge. 7. Demonstrate an understanding of the practical, social and economic factors entailed in the production of a commercial brief. 8. Demonstrate the ability to produce creative imagery that satisfies a commercial brief or an audience. 9. Communicate effectively with industry clients. 10. Demonstrate skills in the use of colour materials and the production of colour prints. 11. Demonstrate a theoretical and practical understanding of colour photography and printing. 12. Discuss work and respond to criticism in an informed way. Indicative syllabus content: Students will be introduced to a wide range of work from existing photographers. Workshops and practical demonstrations will be designed to enhance skills obtained in level 4 photography practice module, (including photographic equipment and techniques of studio and location photography, composition, processing and printing, lighting techniques, and visual aspects of photography). The module will also cover colour temperature, mixed lighting, colour filters, colour printing, colour correction.
