You Talking to Me: A Look at Interaction in Online Classes
As Distance Education and online learning continue their move from
the fringes of academia to the mainstream, it is incumbent upon those
who teach online courses to stress that there is not only no significant
difference in learning outcomes between wholly online and on-campus
classes, but that online learning can lead the way in transforming
teaching, learning, and the way colleges and universities undertake
the business of educating students.

As more and more schools flock to put courses online via distance
education, ethical issues begin to loom large. The attrition rate in online
courses can be very high, with anywhere from 30-50% of students who
initially enroll in such classes dropping out of them before the term ends.

enrolled, and have a good experience

pedagogy and change the teacher-learner relationship in ways that
may be liberating, threatening or both to teachers used to desks that
face the front of the classroom.

In order for that line to be visible by administrators and by faculty,
teachers need to be able to understand, manipulate and manage their
technology-rich course work for students, not just manage. For faculty to
improve their own teaching using computers, they need to be trained
themselves in assessment techniques.
