Disrupting “Conversational Cohesion”:
Synchronous Chat Spaces in Face-to-Face Writing Classes
Although synchronous online discussions are a central element of
distance education, they are not preferred for face-to-face, networked
computer classroom discussions due, in part, to the loss of what Ken
Schweller terms “conversational cohesion” in the online space, where
the conversation can easily diverge in multiple directions.

The Hypertext of Collaboration:
Using a Web-Based MOO to Facilitate Postmodern Collaboration
in the College Classroom
I share the kinds of activities I use in the MOO in my writing class as
it has proved to have potential in both invention and peer evaluating.
Finally, I conclude with some suggested uses for MOOs in connection
with feminist composition pedagogy as a means for including different
student voices and learning styles.

Digitalizing the Gap:
Putting Northern Ireland’s Murals Online
Originally painted to mark the annual celebration of the Battle
of the Boyne, the Belfast wall murals have moved from being an
act of Unionist celebration to stand as an act of Nationalist and
Unionist political protest. This presentation discusses the political and
interpretative implications of portraying Belfast’s murals on the “Web”
as Northern Ireland seeks to articulate a lasting peace.
