System c omponents Insulation monitoring devices An insulation monitoring device (IMD) is not a direct component of the EDS470 system. Nevertheless, it is an indispensable component of any IT system and are urgently demanded by the DIN VDE 01000 T. 410. In most cases, a monitoring concept with an EDS470 system is structured as follows: • Continuous insulation monitoring with a suitable insulation monitoring device; • Advance warning if the value falls below a specified insulation resistance, (e.g. 100Ω/V) using response value 1 of the insulation monitoring device (11/12/14)-, • The EDS470 system will start if the value falls below response value 2 of the insulation monitoring device via inputs GND/IN1 or GND/IN2 of the insulation fault test device. BENDER types IRDH265/365-4, IRDH265/365-3 and IR475LY are appropriate insulation monitoring devices. These devices operate with the patented AMP measuring principle. With this ”adaptive measuring pulse” measuring principle, it is possible to determine the insulation resistance of an IT system in a manner which is both reliable and (to a large extent) independent of the system conditions (DC leakage currents, leakage capacitances, or low-frequency interference signals).
