General Common places of use for the EDS470 system are: • power stations • chemical industry • steelworks • food industry • ship`s supply systems For control voltage systems: EDS473 The EDS470 system is not suitable for control voltage systems with sensible consumers. In case of doubt ask a BENDER product manager. For the insulation fault location in control voltage systems the EDS473 is available. The EDS 473 allows insulation fault location in AC system 20-265 V and DC systems 20-308 V. It operates with test currents of 1 and / or 2.5 mA which are also uncritical in control voltage systems. The EDS473 system is not described in this operating manual. There are separate documents available. For extended IT systems: the E-versions For extended IT systems with lots of subcircuits the E-versions present itself. The scanning of a maximum of 720 measuring current transformers is possible with that. See chapter ”SYSTEM EXTENSIONS AND OPTIONS”. About this manual Great care has been taken in the preparation of this manual. However, faults and errors can not be completely ruled out. 2 Safety instructions Intended use The EDS470 system is exclusively designed for the location of insulation faults in IT systems of AC 20 to 575 V and DC 20 to 500 V. When using a coupling device AGE470, AC systems up to 790 V and DC systems up to 960 V (IT systems) can be monitored. For this purpose, the fault curve in chapter FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE must be observed. Any other use, or any use which goes beyond the foregoing, is deemed to be improper. The BENDER companies shall not be liable for any loss and damages arising therefrom. In the following the EDS470 system is also referred to in the shortened form of EDS system. Intended use also includes • observing of all notes in the operating manual and • adherence to any inspections intervals. As a basic principle, our ”General Conditions of Sale and Delivery” shall apply. These shall be available to the operator no earlier than the time when the contract is concluded. Warranty and liability Warranty and liability claims in the event of injury to persons or damage to property are excluded if they can be attributed to one or more of the following causes: • improper use of the EDS470 system. • Improper assembly / fitting, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the EDS470 system. • Failure to take note of the operating instructions concerning transport, storage, assembly / fitting, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the EDS470 system. • Unauthorized structural modifications of the EDS470 system. • Failure to take note of the technical data. • Improperly performed repairs and the use of spare parts or accessories which are not recommended by the manufacturer. • Cases of disaster brought about by the effect of foreign bodies or force majeure. • The assembly and installation of non-recommended combinations of devices. In order to handle the EDS470 system in accordance with safety requirements and to ensure its trouble-free operation, the fundamental prerequisite is a knowledge of the basic safety information and the safety regulations. Everyone who works with the EDS470 system must take note of this operating manual, and in particular of the safety regulations. In addition to this, the rules and regulations concerning accident prevention which are valid for the operating location must be obeyed. Personnel Only suitably qualified staff may work with the EDS470 system. The term ”qualified” means that such staff are familiar with the assembly, commissioning and operation of the product and that they have undergone training which is appropriate to their activities.
