Pupil E is enthusiastic <strong>and</strong> reflective in her approach to art <strong>and</strong><br />
both seeks <strong>and</strong> listens to advice. She has high-<strong>level</strong> drawing skills<br />
<strong>and</strong> during the course of this project used new media with<br />
increasing confidence <strong>and</strong> technical underst<strong>and</strong>ing. She also<br />
began to develop an intuitive <strong>and</strong> sophisticated approach to her<br />

This work was part of an extended project in which pupils explored<br />
their interests <strong>and</strong> environment. <strong>The</strong> aim was to explore mixed media to develop work on the theme of<br />
identity <strong>and</strong> self-image. Students studied the work of the artist Mary Bero to provide inspiration <strong>and</strong> a starting<br />
point for their own exploration.<br />
In this opening sequence of activities, pupils made drawings on a variety of surfaces using a variety of media<br />
(pencil, pen, oil pastel <strong>and</strong> ink).<br />
