2.0 Your child’s
hospital – RCH

Usually your child is admitted to the ward for the initial diagnosis and tests.
This section lists what to bring, and gives information about the ward, the
people who work in it, the hospital and the local facilities.
Your Guide to The Royal Children’s Hospital is a booklet which has details
about the hospital facilities such as accommodation, Family Resource Centre,
chemist, gift shop, money and valuables, banks and transport. There is a
copy of this guide in The Information Book. If not, or if you need another, ask
for a copy.
Coming to hospital: what to bring...
Your child might need to be admitted several times to hospital for treatment.
Here’s a list of things you and your child might need:
For your child
• Day clothes
• Pyjamas
• Favourite toys and security items –
dummies, teddy, blanket. Please
select toys carefully as space is
limited
• Toiletries – soap, tooth brush,
toothpaste
• Nappies and wipes, if needed
• Headphones
For yourself if staying overnight
• Clothes
• Sleeping bag
• Pillow
• Towel
• Toiletries
• Headphones
• Spare change for the telephone
• Food and drink*
*We have facilities to store a small amount of food and drink in the kitchen.
Please ensure all personal food and drink are clearly labelled.
