Coming to hospital: what to bring...<br />

Your child might need to be admitted to Albury Base Hospital at some<br />

stage throughout their treatment. Here’s a list of things you and your child<br />

might need:<br />

For your child<br />

• Day clothes<br />

• Pyjamas and slippers (or equivalent)<br />

• Favourite toy or security items. Please select<br />

toys carefully as space is limited<br />

• Toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrush, soap,<br />

shampoo<br />

• Infant needs – the Children’s Ward supplies<br />

nappies, wipes and baby bottles/teats (please<br />

bring Avent baby bottles/teats if using them)<br />

• Videos and DVDs you bring in for your child<br />

need to be clearly labelled<br />

• Please bring any medications that your child is<br />

currently taking<br />

For yourself if staying<br />

overnight<br />

• Clothes<br />

• Pillow<br />

• Toiletries<br />

• Food and drink<br />

<strong>The</strong> Children’s Ward<br />

<strong>The</strong> Children’s Ward at Albury Base Hospital is a general children’s ward caring<br />

for children and adolescents with a variety of illnesses. <strong>The</strong> ward has 16 beds<br />

in total. <strong>The</strong>re are four single rooms known as isolation rooms. When possible,<br />

your child will be nursed in one of these rooms whilst an inpatient on the<br />

Children’s Ward.<br />

How the ward works<br />

<strong>The</strong> Children’s Ward can be a very busy and noisy place. <strong>The</strong> ward aims to<br />

be child and family friendly, encouraging and supporting parents/caregivers<br />

to participate in your child’s care and decision-making. <strong>The</strong> Children’s Ward<br />

has a rest period from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm each day, other than that we try<br />

to be as flexible as possible with routines. Please discuss your child’s normal<br />

routines (eg sleeping times etc) with the nursing staff so that these can be<br />

accommodated during your child’s stay.<br />
