If the food on the menu does not suit your child there are other selections<br />

available, please ask your nurse or discuss with the food monitor (the person<br />

who collects the menus). <strong>The</strong>re is a limited supply of snacks /drinks available<br />

from the ward kitchen.<br />

You are welcome to bring you child’s favourite meals from home. We ask that<br />

if food is brought in, it be stored according to safe food handling guidelines.<br />

Television<br />

<strong>The</strong> hospital provides a television in most patient rooms. A private company<br />

administers this and a representative visits the ward daily. No private<br />

televisions, videos, and other electrical appliances are to be brought onto<br />

the ward. Please ask nursing staff on arrival if you would like the television<br />

connected. We also have “Starlight machines” that have a selection of movies<br />

and games. DVD players are also available.<br />

Parents meals<br />

Parents are free to use our kitchen facilities however we do ask that you<br />

clean up after yourself. Continental breakfast is provided for boarding parents.<br />

Tea and coffee making facilities are also available. Unless you are breastfeeding<br />

meals are not provided for parents. You are welcome to use our cafeteria<br />

located on the ground floor near lifts. Hours of operation are 12 noon to<br />

1.30 pm for lunch and 5 pm to 6.30 pm for dinner Monday to Friday. <strong>The</strong>re is<br />

also a kiosk situated in the main foyer of the hospital with a variety of snacks<br />

available open from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm. On weekends meals are available at<br />

the kiosk from 12noon to 1.30 pm and in the evening from 5.00 pm to 6.30<br />

pm. You may also bring food from home, which may be stored in the fridge<br />

in the ward kitchen. Once again we ask that you follow safe food handling<br />

procedures and also ensure that all food is clearly marked with your name.<br />

Parent sleeping facilities<br />

One parent is able to stay with your child overnight. We provide a single foldout<br />

bed, which is set up beside your child’s bed. Linen is provided for your stay.<br />

In the mornings we ask that you pack up your bed.<br />

Showers & toilet facilities<br />

Parents may use the ward’s shower and toilet facilities. You will be shown<br />

these when you are given a tour of the ward. <strong>The</strong>re are also toilets available in<br />

the corridor down from the Allied Health reception area. We ask that parents<br />

shower before 7.30 or after the morning showers are completed.<br />
