Television
The hospital asks that private televisions, videos and other electrical appliances
are not brought into the wards. If electrical equipment is required to be brought
from home it must be checked by the Biomedical Engineering Department
before use. This can be organised by the ward clerk.
Visitors
A prerequisite for all visitors is that they don’t have coughs and colds, and
have not been in recent contact with infectious diseases. Everybody entering
the ward should use the hand gel provided at the entrance.
Due to the limited space in the rooms, please organise your child’s visitors
so that there are only two people at a time at your child’s bedside. We also ask
that visitors (except those caring for your child while you aren’t there) leave the
ward when visiting hours end at 7:30 pm.
There are different visiting guidelines for children having a bone marrow
transplant. If you want information about visiting a child who is having
a bone marrow transplant, please talk with the nurse in charge. Bone
marrow transplants are procedures where stem cells in the bone marrow
are taken from a donor and transplanted to another person. The website
rch.org.au / ccc / treatments has details of the types of Bone Marrow
Transplants (BMT).
Discharge planning
Planning for discharge starts from admission! Parents will have
education sessions run by the ward or Nurse Coordinators either individually
or as groups on the ward. The nursing staff together with the medical staff will
arrange appropriate appointments, blood tests and treatments prior to your
child going home.
