Staff
The Children’s Ward is made up of a number of different staff performing
different roles.
The Nurse Unit Manager, (NUM), is responsible for the overall running and
leadership of the ward. The NUM is usually on the ward Monday to Friday
(business hours).
The Children’s Ward is staffed every shift with an Associate Nurse Unit Manger
(ANUM) and bedside nurses. The ANUM is responsible for the ward and the
bedside nurses each shift. You are welcome to talk to the bedside nurse or
ANUM’s about any concerns or questions you may have about your child or
the treatment.
Each day the ward medical round is attended by the Paediatric Registrar,
Resident and ANUM. Your child’s medical care is discussed and plans are
made for care. The Registrar, Resident and nursing staff keeps your child’s
CCC treating team at the RCH informed and up to date about your child.
A Grand Round is held on Monday and Thursday mornings, where all
Paediatricians and allied health staff attend.
Telephone calls
Family and friends can call the ward if they need to speak to you. Each bed
has a telephone however these only receive incoming calls. Outgoing calls
can be made if a Phone Card is purchased (please check with ward staff as to
where a Phone Card can be purchased). A Gold pay phone is also available
outside the entrance to the Children’s Ward. Mobile phones are to be switched
off whilst on the ward as they can interfere with medical equipment. If you wish
to use your mobile you will need to leave the ward to do so. The ward is also
equipped with portable phones that may be used. The ward clerk or nursing
staff will transfer calls onto these if necessary.
Television and electronic games
Please do not bring in any televisions or other electrical appliances, as they
cannot be used on the ward. Each bed has a television. Electronic games
are also available from the Nurses Station that can be used at the bedside.
It is important that these be shared around. The video and DVD systems are
centrally operated from the Nurses Station.
