Wide Bay Championships
Noosa 2009
Wide Bay Regional Swimming Championships were held from 13 th to 15 March 2009 at the Noosa
Aquatic Centre. 374 swimmers entered 1705 individual nominations from 35 Wide Bay clubs. The
Wide Bay committee extends their thanks to Gary Lavender and the parents from Noosa for their
help in facilitating the championships.
A new program format saw swimmers competing in multi aged distance events and heats in the
morning and returning for finals and relays on Saturday evening. The atmosphere of the evening
finals was incredible with many surprised at the number of people who came back to cheer on the
swimmers. Finals on the Sunday were conducted following the morning and afternoon sessions.
Presentations were made to the younger swimmers while the older swimmers preferred to accept
their medals without having to have them formally presented. This method worked really well as
almost all medals were collected shortly after the winners were announced.
Again this year Wide Bay hosted the meet with parents from each attending club having positions to
fill on the parent roster. Several people were accredited as technical officials. Many people had
hours signed off in their red books. It is everyone pitching in together that makes WB champs a
really great weekend.
Swim-a-roo merchandised the WB tee shirts again with great new designs and colours. RetraVision
generously provided $1,000 worth of store vouchers which were distributed through draws to people
who signed on to the technical official volunteer roster.
