Kawana Waters ‐ Presidents Report 2008/2009 season
Welcome to all to the Agm
I would like to take this opportunity to personally say thank you to the current committee for doing
a fantastic job this year.
This year our young club under went a name change from Quad Park to Kawana waters swimming
club. We were also promoted in our wide bay division from division 5 to division 3.Our club
consisted of about 50 recreational swimmers and about 30 competitive. Our club received a grant
from woollies this year of $1800 and we purchased 2 large tents and through our fundraising
efforts we managed to save up and buy a laptop and the necessary programs required.
The club embarked on a uniform for the competive swimmers as well as club bathers.
The bathers are a stand out and admired by all the clubs in wide bay, our jackets are fantastic for
the winter short course, our caps look tremendous and our club shirts are stunning.
Club nights were a huge success and I wish to thank Michelle masters, Kerri Burnham, Dave
Slegers, Dave Crosby, Ellen te riel, ann Marie fair‐weather, and Nicole browning without these
people club would not have happened, and all the parents with the time keeping.
I would like to say an extra special thanks to Annemarie fair‐weather our race secretary for all the
work and training she did this year with us all.
Our very first carnival was held here and was awesome this year we attracted about 200 swimmers
from all over the state and it was a huge success with many positive comments from other clubs
and officials.
I would like to make mention of our bank the heritage. The staff at the heritage came and helped
tirelessly that day, gave all the kids show bags, cooked our BBQ, collected the gate taking, supplied
our marhalling tent, erected it and pulled it apart.
Without them I don’t know what we would have done? Thank you to heritage.
Our club was well represented at state titles this year we had 10 competitors attend state title in
cairns and I believe we were the biggest contingent represented from one club.
We had remi fair‐weather, Ellen masters, and Chelsea gubecka all made it through to nationals in
Perth in September.
At senior level at world trials for Rome, we had jo dandle make the final in the 200m fly and Sam
hamill 2 nd in the 200 fly and 2nd in the 400im final.
Samantha hamill also won swimmer of the year for the wide bay association.
Swimming Australia also rewards the kids in competion with a junior excellence program; we had
19 kids acknowledged this year for making the quailfing times set by swimming Australia. 9 of
those kids got gold status for there efforts.
