GYMPIE GOLD FINS SEASON 2008-2009
2008 – 2009 Season produced some excellent results for our club.
Club membership is up from the 2007 - 2008 season with 60 competitive swimmers and 61 recreational
swimmers, making a total of 121 members for 2008-2009
With the excellent increase in new swimmers, also brings in a number of new parents, who we as a club, are
actively pursuing for roles and or positions in the club.
These positions are at committee and club night level. We all know that for a club to be strong and
competitive it must have a solid foundation and that is what we are hopefully going to achieve in the 2009 –
2010 season.
This season has produced some great results for our club. Our only carnival the “Gympie Gold
Rush Sprint Meet” was a huge success both in an increased number of swimmers and financially successful as
well.
Some of these results are listed below.
• David Lee – multiple finalist at Telstra Australian Championships. Selected in the Australian team for
the Global Games in Czech Republic in July 2009. David was also a medallist at Qld State Age &
Open Championships & State Sprints.
• Drew Timbs – Finalist in 13years 100m Butterfly at 2009 Australian Age Championships, Finalist at
State Age & Open & State Sprints
• Scott Gear – Bronze Medallist in the 13years 50m Backstroke at State Sprints
• 6 Swimmers nominated for Sate Age & Open with 1 medallist & 3 Finalists
• 8 Swimmers nominated for State Sprints, with 2 medallists & 5 finalists
• 13 Swimmers nominated for Wide Bay Championships with 6 medallists and multiple finalists
• Irene Armstrong –Wide Bay Swimming Volunteer of the year
• 55 McDonalds participation awards – Daniel Allen runner-up in state draw
• 12 McDonalds improvement awards – Bryony May runner –up in state draw
• Swim star lucky draw – Ellen Wheeler
• Junior Excellence awards – Gold Star (1), Gold (1), Silver (1), Bronze (5) & Green (3)
Gympie Gold Fins is looking forward to a new season. Our primary focus is to continue
To provide opportunities for, and support our competitive swimmers and start putting in place avenues for
our junior swimming community to become more involved in Club activities.
I would like to thank the volunteer parents, those that served on the club management committee and
those that have given their time for specific events, such as the Gold Rush meet and club nights. None of
those things happen without your commitment, thank you.
